First I would like to say that the black hills themselves are awesome. I see now why the American Indians considered this a holy place. Truly one of the garden spots of this or any other nation. The Summer Creek Inn proved to be a wonderful bed and breakfast in many ways. Very clean and stylish with large comfortable room and every amenity one could think of. Our host and hostess were most gracious and prepared wonderful breakfasts for us on two days of our stay. One day we went on a tour and had breakfast out. We enjoyed our hot tub and out large patio on which we sat and enjoyed the beautiful waterfall. We even saw deer in the yard one evening. All in all a great place to rest and relax. It is centrally located if you are touring Mount Rushmore or any of the Black Hills area. Would be happy to stay there again anytime.

Room Tip: Any room in the place would be great.

Thank you for coming and joining us on your vacation. You're correct on how beautiful the Black Hills are, describing it doesn't do it any justice! We would love to have you join us again when you're ready to check a few more things off your bucket list in the Black Hills! Have a great rest of your summer!

My husband and I stayed at the Summer Creek Inn a few weeks ago in Suite #1. It was just like the pictures. Beautiful and relaxing. Dan and Nancy were terrific hosts. They were very helpful on giving us the low down on some of the restaurants and activities in the area.
We brought our truck and enclosed trailer for our Harley and they had plenty of parking and accommodations for it. The area is very nice and secluded we felt very comfortable.
As people have said you don't have phone service there, BUT we have US Cellular and we didn't have it most places in South Dakota. They did offer their phone in the main room for any outbound calls. This was no problem for us. We were on vacation!
Thanks Dan and Nancy for your hospitality while we were there. We will be back!

My wife and I stayed at Summer Creek Inn's Suite 2 for two nights during our road trip in Wyoming and South Dakota. The Inn and our suite were simply luxurious, it was a real pleasure to return after they day's hiking and touring and relax. This Inn is perfectly suited for couples looking for a private getaway, or wedding parties, which they seem to host regularly. The biggest downside was that there was no internet connection at all, and even our (AT&T) mobile devices could not connect to the network while at the Inn. One should also keep in mind that this is not a regular hotel with 24/7 front desk, room service etc. Having said that, Nancy and Dan were extremely helpful and nice.

Hi Jaakko,
Dan and I truly enjoyed having you and your wife stay with us during your trip. We are working with the phone company to get the internet resolved so hopefully that'll be fixed here soon. We hope you enjoyed your trek across Wyoming and South Dakota and hope to have you come visit the beautiful Black Hills again. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Based on the majority of TripAdvisor reviews, we expected this Inn to be a respite. We were extremely disappointed with the overall experience. The inn is appointed well but is not guest friendly or emotionally comfortable. The inn's persona seems to vacillate between B&B, boutique inn, and event venue. Our best description would be a small ,upscale destination event venue. Guests and their comfort are not their primary concern. If you are expecting a B&B or small inn experience, we would recommend you go elsewhere.

When we arrived, we were told we could use the cordless phone for calls but no Wi-Fi is not available. We were also informed there is NO individual climate control for each room; it is controlled by the innkeepers for each floor. We were told if we needed anything to let them know by knocking on their door or locating them on the property. We did not see the innkeepers for the first two days we were there. Our satellite TV did not work and when we did locate them we were told we should have contacted them on the intercom system and that it would be taken care of by Dan. We were unaware an intercom system existed and the TV was never repaired. The room was extremely hot during the day and night..There was a constant reverberating noise in one of the walls which was loud and annoying. We booked a spa appointment when we made our reservation and there was constant confusion about the appointment date and time. On the day of the appointment, we were informed last minute it had to be rescheduled. We did reschedule for another day but the time provided was incorrect and we did not find out until we confirmed with Nancy upon our return to the inn for the spa service. On a positive note, the masseuses were excellent and very professional.

Ice is not available unless you can find the innkeepers. All drinks are locked down at all times and you cannot access anything but coffee/tea without the innkeepers being present. We were told fresh baked cookies are available but we did not see anything available throughout our three day stay. Using the theater room has to involve the innkeepers since the controls are not easy to set. They were preparing for a wedding and that was clearly their only concern. There was construction underway on an event center on the property and we would have appreciated being informed of this at our booking. Large machinery was operating throughout the day and it impacted our privacy on the top floor since we were level with all of the activity.

On our last day, we had breakfast reservations (you pay 11.95 PP for breakfast) and walked down to find the entire breakfast area covered in boxes and catering supplies. One of the tables had our place setting but it was not a comfortable experience. The breakfast was mediocre at best; the innkeepers sit down with you while you are eating so be aware. Their concern seemed to be for wedding preparations and the cost of things and not really about us or our stay. When we checked out of the inn, a tip option populated with pre-set amounts. I asked if this was for the masseuses and was told yes. I added the tip and when I later calculated the rates, it was based on the remainder of the balance of our stay and not the spa services. This was an extremely disappointing experience.

Hi Dinner Hiker,
We would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to have you and your wife stay with us! We would like to first apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with different things around the Inn. We do agree that the catering materials should've been moved before your arrival but wanted to focus more on breakfast and making sure everything was on time for you and your wife. Normally we do visit with our guest during breakfast to have that personal touch that an Inn can provide. We're currently working on improving the grounds here at the Inn but with the crazy weather we've been experiencing this year it has put us behind for completion dates. On the point of the beverages, by state law all alcoholic beverages must be locked up and in a secure location, Dan and I are more than happy to help anyone who is requesting beverages during their stay.
We also apologize for the confusion on scheduling your spa appointment and scheduling changes due to therapist having an unexpected personal event. Some changes had to be made with the spa scheduling due to this. So happy to hear the massages were what you were hoping for.
Again thank you for giving Summer Creek Inn and Spa the opportunity to have you during your vacation. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns we may help with.

Having just read Mason R's review, as the father of the bride I must respond. Mason did not rent or stay at the Summer Creek Inn; it was reserved for the bridal party for the entire weekend. As such, Mason has no knowledge of the planning and sequencing of events, such as needing the wedding party to move outside to allow staff to set up the wonderful buffet. He also has no knowledge of the fact that the length of the event was limited by noise ordinances that required shutting down the music at 10:00 pm and this was explained before the event. His review is a continuation of some of the immature behavior I saw late that evening.

The wedding, the Inn, and the staff were wonderful. The venue could not have been more beautiful and Daniel and Nancy did everything possible to make this a memorable event. The Thursday night before the wedding saw a huge thunderstorm literally flood the backyard and send a river through the tent that was set up for the reception. When we arrived Friday afternoon you would have never known there was a mess the night before. We rented all 10 rooms for the bride and bridesmaids and the bride's family and it was wonderful. The breakfasts were amazing, as was the cocktail party and fajita bar arranged for the reception. The tent was beautiful and the wedding site on the lawn was stunning. In the week since the wedding I have heard nothing but rave reviews from our guests.

I highly recommend the Summer Creek Inn for a weekend get-away or an event such as ours. There are limitations on noise, at least until Daniel and Nancy build an enclosed venue, but unless this is the most important aspect of your event everything else was perfect.
