Some fellow travellers encouraged us to visit this gallery during our stay in Stromness and we were so pleased they did. During our visit there was a special exhibition on paintings and photographs of Stromness, which was fascinating, as well as the permanent exhibition. Because of the friendship between the gallery's founder and Barbara Hepworth, there are a number of Hepworth drawings and sculptures as well as paintings from Ben Nicholson and others from St Ives.
The quality of the paintings on display are enhanced by the layout, which is light and airy with a large window looking out onto Stromness harbour.
And it is free! Definitely worth a visit.
