Some amazing iconic artworks mixed with contemporary exhibitions, a great well designed building that is a pleasure to wander around. This place is a must for a visit.

Don't be put off by thinking "art" is not for you. This is a treat. Historically interesting as well as housing a great art collection and exhibiting contemporary art too.

Three floors of gallery space, filled with the work of artists, modern, recent and not so modern. The short art film Colour Poems (12 minutes) by Margaret Tait was captivating and the work by Barbara Hepworth was beautiful and incredible to view from different angles and distances. A truly magnificent resource, well run and beautifully developed for Orkney and its wealth of artistic talent.

Unfortunately we visited on change over week but enjoyed a look at the permanent collection which is definitely for the Modern contemporary Art lover. Shop disappointing and no cafe. Good hang and lovely site sensitively arranged
