My wife and a I called in for a coffee and cake whilst visiting the area. Very pleasant atmosphere set in the old court house. Many of the original features have been retained. A large mural behind the counter depicts several celebrities, famous historical figures and some notable local people. There's a good selection of hot & cold food as well as snacks. We had 2 Americanos and a piece of Victoria Sponge to share and at only £7.05 falls into my £5 per person for coffee and cake guideline of Value For Money. Very friendly and attentive staff. Free WiFi. Highly Recommended. NOTE: Access to the Café is not disabled friendly. There is a ramp into the building but then a flight of stairs to the Café. If there is a lift we didn't see it or it wasn't obvious. Otherwise would have given it 5⭐️

Thank you for your kind review. I am so glad you both enjoyed your visit and found our offering good value. In answer to your note we do have a lift located immediately to the right hand side of the stairs with provides access to the first floor. I am sorry you didn't notice it on this occasion and will review the signage to ensure this doesn't happen again. We hope to welcome you back to The Courthouse soon.
Kind regards
Carol

What a gem to find. This is in an amazing building with lots of history. Lovely coffee, fabulous cakes and friendly staff. What more could you want from a tearoom. Brilliant.

Went to Dornoch to play golf at the Royal Dornoch Golf Club. The clubhouse could not oblige us for lunch because the club president's funeral was that same day, but we were referred to the Carnegie Tearoom & Deli that is upstairs in the former courthouse. Charming dining room. Awesome food, especially the hamburger. Well worth a visit.

Continental-styled and serving quality food in an original venue overlooked by famous folks associated with the town - including "Maddona" (sic)..
Don't be put off by the limited menu because the food is excellent, and not overpriced. We had a choice of two home-made soups, but found it difficult to resist the terrific pastries.
The service is quick and efficicient, and we were not surprised at having to wait a short time for vacant seats: it was well worth the mild inconvenience.
We'll go back again during our stay here, extended due to the many local and quaint Scottish attractions - the museum included.
