From the minute we walked into reception we felt we mattered to the hotel. The receptionist informed us the room wasn't ready, we were 2 hours early, but directed us to the bar and then fast tracked our room. The suite was on the top floor with magnificent views of the grounds and river. The meals were very good. The lunch menu was small but catered for all. The evening meal was very good with a good selection of Scottish fare, just what we hoped for. We found the staff to be very friendly and attentive, actually engaging in conversation instead of the stunted replies often encountered. Breakfast was again very good with a great selection of hot and cold food.
The location is ideal for exploring an often overlooked part of Scotland and is very close to the Abbeys of Dryburgh ( next door), Melrose and Jedburgh for those needing a culture fix.More
