Review of The Milko

The Milko
Ranked #11 of 31 Restaurants in Woodend
Price range: US$7 - US$11
Description: The Milko Cafe provides casual eating options for all people. Specialising in Toasties, Bagels, Salads and Pastries we provide the largest range of Gluten Free, Vegan and Vegetarian options in Woodend; as well as traditional fillings. With two separate eating areas, a courtyard and street-side tables there are plenty of places to relax and enjoy The Milko's offerings. Coffee is the heart of our business, provided by Melbourne's own Seven Seeds, it is one of Woodend's best brews.

Got sick of always waiting in the queue at Bourkies so went exploring and stumbled across this cafe.
Loved the coffee and the rustic feel of the place. Would definitely come back just for the coffee which was not too strong (as they are often these days.)

It was ok.
Overpriced pies and terrible coffee.
The only real thing it had going for it was the decor and the friendly staff.

Hi there

In response to your review and on the topic of pies. I agree our pies are more expensive then some others. We have a choice to buy generic pies from bulk suppliers and charge a lower price but we choose to purchase our pies from specialist pie makers like Ka Pies (Winner of 2016 Pie of the Year) and Funky Pies (maker of Vegan, Gluten Free and Vegetarian Pies).

These pies cost more due to the quality and in some instances specialised ingredients, which we think is worth it!

We are not happy to hear your coffee was not to your liking, we pride ourselves on our coffee. I hope you will give us another chance to get it right for you, our 7 Seeds blend is a from a leading Melbourne coffee roaster that we generally receive great feedback on.

As being a vegetarian who doesn't eat dairy it is often hard to find a cafe that caters for this.
Milko has many vegan options.
I would recommend this cafe to anyone, the food was perfect, for both meat eaters and vegos!

Thank you Paige for you review of the Milko and for recognising our vegan and non vegan options, we are really wanting to provide food for all at a reasonable price. One year in and we are feeling that we are getting the right balance.
Hope to see you again soon!

Who would of thought that Woodend would cater for vegans and provide great lunch and breakfast choices with out breaking the budget. I drive 20 mins to this town to go to this cafe it has great vegan and non vegan sandwich pie and soup options. Yummy cake and highly recommend the Chai Latte and Vegan Banana Bread. Great service and the price is great for family's. Decent space compared to competition like Mr in Macedon which is cramped in comparison.

Thank you so much for your kind review. We have really focused on the idea of "food for all" at the Milko so its great to see that recognised!
Our Vegan range continues to grow and its amazing to see non-vegan people responding to the food choices as well.
We hope to see you again soon

This place was recommended by a friend. I thought I'd take up the suggestion, and bring my 76 year old mother here. We sat down looking for a bite to eat. After a while our waitress brought our food, and I said that it wasn't what we ordered. When she finally brought our food again she gave it to us in a passive aggressive manor. My mother also found a hair in her focaccia. Definitely WON'T be back.

Hi there, it sounds as if you had a less than ideal service at the Milko. We really do hold ourselves to high standards and believe that in moments like these customer satisfaction is of utmost importance.
Our staff are hard working and if you were in over the long weekend (ANZAC Day) , really hard working, so perhaps you mistook necessary haste as not being attentive enough when you encountered an issue with our service.
I would ask that you give us another go, you friend was right to recommend the Milko and everyone can have a bad day, particularly when we had people 10 deep at the counter for most of the Anzac Day weekend - its was super busy!
