This was a great way to see parts of the Hill country that you cant see from a car. We did see 2 Bald Eagle as well as other wildlife. The guide is VERY informative. We would do this again.

My husband and I took the Vanishing Texas River Cruise together with my daughter and her boyfriend on Lake Buchanan in Burnet, Texas on Sunday, December 17th. We took the two hour Eagle Cruise that went on Lake Buchanan and up the Colorado River. The day started out cloudy, misting and relatively cool but turned out to be beautiful while we were on the cruise. We are very happy the weather turned out the way it did because it helped make our cruise an excellent one!!

Our tour guide, Lee, was a biologist who has done a lot of research with respect to the lake and the surrounding area. He was very knowledgeable and provided great background information about the history of the lake, its geological formations, the unique geography associated with the area and the environmental ecosystem, including great details about the wild life on the lake. The information that he provided was interesting, informative, educational and made our tour of the beautiful scenic lake very enjoyable, allowing us to have a great appreciation for the lake and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. He pointed out about 7 bald eagles, multiple blue herons, osprey, ducks, geese, and much more wildlife. We were able to see the bald eagles very close-up, which was amazing!!

Lee also provided very interesting information on the silver mines that attracted the Spanish to the area and the Apaches that wiped out the settlements on the lake. He pointed out interesting details about the willow trees growing in the lake, that provide a diversity of growth and an infrastructure that widens the base of the food chain in the lake’s ecosystem. He also provided information regarding the mineral deposits, the salt formations, limestone and rare earth metals that attracted people to the lake and surrounding area. We really liked the waterfall and surrounding geological rock formations and their historic significance based on the background information that Lee provided.

The cruise was an excellent experience and we highly recommend it to others. This is the second time we took this cruise. Last time we took it in the May 2016 timeframe. We are glad we took this cruise and we would definitely take it again. We hope that you have the opportunity to enjoy it as much as we did!!

We wanted to go on this cruise 1st November but they were not running it even though it was advertised. Therefore can only give it a bad rating.

Our trip was fully booked up, and still we had a great time enjoying the water, birds and cliffs along the river. We took the short cruse and only got to see one waterfall, that was actually quite nice. My advice would be to take a longer, sunset trip for best photo opps.

You can not experience this in your car or by hiking! Want to see the Colorado River of Texas - unspoiled by development?
Want to see the Llano Uplift, migrating birds and pristine waterfalls? Don't expect a "glamorous cruise ship" - expect a boat ride of the unexpected... Our trip was narrated by a knowledgeable naturalist, who informed and entertained us. He shared history, geology, biology and lore - we loved it. You never know that you are going to see - we saw cormorants, osprey, pelicans, geese, ducks, vultures, turkey vultures, egrets, great blue heron and the first bald eagle sighting of the season!!!
