Though the original was destroyed in 1896, this replica from 1935 was moved back 50 yards from Main Street and houses some fine exhibits on Fredericksburg's history. The original was the 1st public building in town serving as the town hall, church, school and even a fort. The biggest surprise was a Gutenburg bible on display, from I think 1665, and when I asked how they acquired it, was told they found it packed away in storage at the old library.

Free entry to a small but informative museum which gives a good understanding of why and how the area was developed by German immigrants in the 1840’s. A lovely building

Here is where the German settlers worshiped in the 1800's when settling Fredericksburg area. The history is well worth the visit. It is in the center of the Market Place Square in the center of town.

This small museum holds interesting artifacts and the lady working the day we went was very interesting to talk with. Also, include a small gift shop. The garden area behind the museum is worth making this stop a part of your Fredericksburg visit.

The history of the German settlers in Texas was well organized and very informative. I felt like this should have been included in Texas History classes. The information made our visit to Fredericksburg more meaningful.
