My wife and I are from Arizona but are huge oyster fans. We got a tip from another restaurant (Nate's West End, also excellent) to go to the Black Pearl. On a cold and rainy day we stopped by after doing some site-seeing. We had read a lot of reviews both good and not so good (although most are 5 stars) so were anxious to see how the food and service was. We ordered a bottle of wine and started out with a dozen oysters on the half shell. When she put them down we were amazed as they were some of the largest oysters we had ever seen! My wife usually doesn't care for large oysters as she prefers the smaller more "salty" ones but these were fantastic. They were so large that you couldn't eat a whole one at the time. We mentioned to the server at the bar (she was excellent) that we had read reviews that their oysters were "small" and the prices excessive. She said there's no "standard" size for an oyster and they get all sizes in from the gulf. As for prices, has anyone ever bought oysters in a seafood restaurant in Phoenix? We've paid anywhere from 2-4 dollars an oyster and they weren't anywhere as good as these fresh ones! We paid $16.95 for a dozen. After eating these big boys I could have called it a meal but we also had fish tacos and calamari which were both excellent. After having these three items and a bottle of wine we paid $75. We walked out of there full and satisfied. We highly recommend visiting this oyster bar if you're in Galveston. You won't be disappointed!

Lots of restaurants in area to choose fried or raw oysters, but hubby & I prefer the baked. Upon reading tips on here, we ordered the Oysters 3 ways. What a great deal! 12 Oysters in total for $20. Shucked to order right there! The Crab & Cheddar were my fav as hubby’s were the Shrimp Diablo (spicy). Great hometown feeling restaurant with friendly staff. Can’t get these in Iowa...don’t miss out!

We stopped in tonight to grab a bite to eat. We had the best service. It was happy hour so we started with a dozen oysters and they were awesome. We were going to get salads and thankfully the waitress told us it is a salad that most people split. She was so helpful and refilled our drinks before they were even halfway gone. We were one happy couple!

Try this little 50's style diner in the heart of the Galveston Island Strand. It's worth the wait for a table, and you might luck out and eat at the well-stocked bar where the service is great. They have a good selection of cold beer, wine and mixed drinks. The Seafood Gumbo is fantastic plus the bread pudding is divine. Enough bread budding for a group. It's a busy café so get there early on a weekend. You are close enough to the Strand to walk from area parking or street parking. If you like Cajun Food this restaurant is a must.

A great little oyster bar with Cajun favorites! We shared everything. Raw oysters were freshly shucked and sweet, the red beans and rice was tender and full of flavor (a cup is the size of a bowl and a bowl is huge), the fried boudin balls were served with a mild remoulade sauce and quite flavorful (they are large), the po' boys are on nice sized baguettes with choice of sides. We had the soft shell crab and the house special black pearl po' boys (fried oysters buffalo wing style with hot sauce and blue cheese crumbles) and couldn't have been happier. For side you have to try the tender fried okra (topped with grated Parmesan cheese) and the coleslaw (not overly done with mayo and definitely not watery). For desert we split a bread pudding which was good. The atmosphere has character - a little run down/gritty but that gives it charm. There are 2 and 4-top tables and a long counter bar you can sit at. Shiner Bock on tap and Abita in the bottle. Credit card and ATM machines weren't working when we were there (suspect it was because of the road construction right outside) and we had to pay cash (but well worth it).
