Carter and Cooley Company has been a fixture on 19th St. for over 20 yrs, long before all the restaurants that have popped up on 19th St in the last 5 yrs. Wide variety of deli sandwiches and sides like potato salad and cold slaw. Tea, lemonade and soft drinks. Pleasant atmosphere

If your looking for a cool little deli in a neat part of the City, this is your spot. The establishment has a neat interior that makes you feel like your back in 1915. The ceiling is a cool red color and looks original. You can choose from a variety of fresh sandwiches and they have an assortment of chips that come as a side. On the day I went, they had chili and clam chowder as additional options. Potato salad is also an option for a side. It is not cheap, with most of the sandwiches being about $10, but the service is good and you feel like you are supporting something by eating there.

Had lunch here the other day. They have a great selection of sandwiches. They also have soup of the day. I had the split pea and ham soup. It was really good with nice chunks of ham. I also had a grilled cheese sandwich which they made up special for me. My husband had the cuban sandwich, and he said it was very good.

I had the Rueben while my wife the muffaletta. The Rueben was warm and filled with quality meat, not too fatty. The muffalletta was kind of the opposite, not a lot of meat and bland. Too bready and so unlike the New Orleans ones we have eaten. There was a 1" ring on the side with nothing but bread. We both got potato salad, which came in a 2-3 oz. (it seemed) small cup. Too little of a portion. OK, better than Subway, but the muffaletta was just so-so.

Carter and Cooley has been there for years and offer solid food. They make a great Reuben on rye. They also sell hand dipped Blue Bell ice cream and milk shakes
