My friend and I visited French Gourmet for lunch while vacationing in Houston. What a delight it was to have such a friendly, attentive service and delicious food. We choose the special of the day, soup, salad and sandwich with a yummy piece of Italian Cream cake for dessert.

Besides the fresh baked bread with no preservatives you can get Almond croissants or coffeecakes, and some of the best cookies you'll ever taste. My favorite part about this is that there is an authentic French Baker there who is very nice and always shares story with us.

The pastries here were very good but pricy. It was rather annoying that prices for the many of the items were not clearly listed-some were on a board, others you needed to ask about-and the staff was not always sure or accurate. Not necessarily a place to go out of the way for.

The brownies were a wonderful after lunch delight. They taste a little bit like a mix of a cake brownie and fudge. Absolutely amazing taste. They also serve complimentary coffee and tea-what a nice touch. I highly recommend this place if you have a sweet tooth.

This place has added to the quality of life in Houston. No joke. I have been a steady customer since the mid-80's and have only found parallel quality in Brussels and France.
The reason I learned, is that this baker/owner is a 5th generation baker from France. His bakery now carries a third of what it once did but what is avalible are some of my favorites. The eclairs, there are none better. The apple pie is perfect. The pecan coffee cake and the country french bread have become staples in my house. Nothing is sicky sweet but rich, mellow and mouth watering. It is all about the science of baking and this baker has reached the apex in his craft.
