got rained out at ft davis with a huge storm. had to change plans and let the storm blow over.. a riding buddy showed us this place and we called to see if we could get in..owner was out of town but a free spirit opened up the hostel to us and showed us around.. this place is very funky and earthy. but it was perfect for a place to crash for the night, dry our riding gear and enjoy the evening. it's a hostel in the middle of no where.. it's not a 5 star resort.. but it's very cool hangout and cheap.

Room Tip: If you don't expect much and enjoy the vib.. this place is cool

This place may not be for everyone, but it is an oasis in the middle of no where that you can afford. For touring cyclists its free for the first night and a donation there after, just to pay for gas and electricity. Good beds, warm shower, kitchen, fridge, micro wave, toaster oven, and a common living room with piano. And plenty of books to choose from for your reading pleasure. This place is an eye opener for any hiker/biker, give it a try. We are both 55 +/-, and loved it. Check it out on www.Warmshowers.com The night skies are stunning. Do not judge this book by its cover, the people are great and its just a groovy kind of place.

We stayed here for the annual Marathon 2 Marathon race.
It was the perfect hippy hangout. We had everything we needed/wanted in a funky, friendly place that treads lightly on this blue ball.

This is a great place for seasoned campers as well as newbies who want to disconnect from commercial travel options. It was clean, but not hyper-clean, and had a comfortable "lived-in" feel.

We will totally be staying here for the next race!

When it got far too cold to camp at Big Bend, La Loma del Chivo had hot showers, a beautiful kitchen to use and warm beds. For parties of two or more, I recommend renting a private house. The staff is truly hospitable and I will always make this a stop during the long drive out of west Texas.

We rolled up to La Loma Del Chivo in the middle of the night. We weren't expecting what we found. The beds were all full, so we bedded down on the sofa only to be greeted a couple of hours later by a lovely black and white dog to watch over us. Free use of gas stove and a tour in the morning from Mike of the handmade papercrete structures and tales of previous residents. This place is a definite eye opener but would recommend bringing your own sleeping bags if you find the place to be full as we did. Our stay was free, all that was suggested was a voluntary donation of a sum we felt appropriate. Top notch place, hope you get the trees growing Mike. Look out for the prescription sunglasses hanging from the chain at the entrance arch, we hope they work for someone...

Room Tip: Arrive in daylight.
