Apart from the location which is fine as right on the beach, this Melia is old and disappointing. Nice views over the pool area and the ocean but the rooms and the whole hotel need serious refurbishment. The food is quite bad (only buffet) and the pool is noisy. Should be classified as 4 stars, not 5.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less entertainment noise

Stayed here for 10 nights, booked with Jet2 holidays on a half board basis. Very comfortable rooms with lots of hanging space for clothes but the shelving area was very badly designed as one section could not be fully accessed (mirror doors restricted overall access). The grounds of the hotel are really beautiful and well maintained. The hotel also has its own observatory and we attended one of the star-gazing sessions which was very enjoyable. Overall the food was very good, amazing selection of fresh fruit at breakfast, as well as the usual cooked breakfasts, range of breads etc and cereals. As a vegetarian, there was often a limited choice of vegetarian main courses (other than freshly cooked pizza slices). One evening there was an actual vegetarian corner for main courses and would have liked to have this every evening. There was wide range of starters and salads which were also well labeled, so we managed to get a reasonable selection most evenings. The desserts were excellent, so if we were limited by the main courses, we could make up for it with the desserts. Loved their Tiramisu dessert. Their Tiramisu ice cream is not to be missed! Would certainly consider this hotel for any future visit to Gran Canaria. The hotel is well served with a taxi rank outside, 2 local supermarkets within easy reach, close to local bus stop for services to Maspalomas and Las Palmas and tourist information centre.

We stayed in Melia Tamarindos one week in November. We had the Level service included with the room of sea view.

Melia Tamarindos is old hotel, but really clean. Everything is working fine.

The room was not big, but nice view to the garden and sea from the fifth floor.

Hotel has large garden. Nowadays you don't build hotel, which has such a big garden.

Swimming pool was a surprise. It was big enough and it was deep in the other end. The quality of the water was excelent. You could really practice swimming in the pool.

The Level service was good extra for your holiday. It was wonderful to get free newspaper to your room every afternoon. Nice little surprise. The Level service has a small amount of drinks available during the whole day in the hotel lobby. Also a small amount of tapas was provided daily at 1pm. At the 6pm you have a small amount of special drinks available.

The Level service has special breakfast served next to the pool. It was really fantastic. Very friendly service. This same restaurant is during the evening called Tara by night. We enjoyed its service two nights and we were really happy to the quality of the foods. Tara by night is not cheapest restaurant in the area, but it has good quality for the money.

The Level service has near the pool own area. It was disappointment. Really small area and partly down of the ground level. It was hard to find places in this area, where the sun was shining the whole day. Plenty of the shadows. The better place for the Level service could be in the area between the sea and the Tara by night restaurant.

We used also spa services. Spa services are extra services, which you need to pay. Really nice service. I also tried the sauna in the spa area. I am really enthusiastic of saunas. The sauna provided in the spa area is one of the stranges ones I have ever seen. No oven to be seen. Oven was situated behind the wall behind your back. If I could hope something could be renovated, I really hope that the hotel could build really traditional (Finnish) sauna.

This hotel is definitely NOT a 5 star, the food in the buffet is warm at best and sometimes inedible. The room was ok, comfy bed, but again not a 5 star room, the gardens are lovely and well kept, and the pool area also very nice. The staff are lovely. The entertainment in the evening was appalling most evenings and on our last day we decided to play crazy golf but were told they only had 2 golf clubs and they were being used. I was actually amused at how pathetic that was. Having visited Melia Caya Coco which is fantastic I expected a similar experience but was sadly very let down. Would I return, definitely not, nor would I recommend this hotel for the prices they charge as it should be classified as 3 star.

Room Tip: If you pay an extra £100 a day you can stay in The Level - really!
