We arrived at the hotel and at first everything seemed ok. My daughter went into the bathroom to shower and when she turned on the light she saw a small roach on the floor. She showered and when she got out she saw several on the floor. We then began to see them in the main room also. We immediately went and got the manager who assured us they did not have a roach problem. He offered to give us another room and every one we looked at had roaches in them. We had small children who were crying by now because they were scared and we told him we could not stay in a hotel with roaches. We ask for a refund but he said he would have to consult the owners to call back the next day. We did and no one answered, to this day no one has taken our calls and we still have not gotten our money back!

Our trip to Schlitterbahn was much anticipated by the whole family. We'd seen many travel channel shows about it and all agreed that we had to add it to the list of waterparks we had visited. The March before our August visit I booked a one bedroom cabin at Schlitterbahn West. Booking was only done over the phone, so I had a helpful person answering all of my questions. I was told that the cabin had a fully equipped kitchen and was where she preffered to stay. They rented for $190.00 per night and only included a discount on park passes. As a result of our conversation I booked one for six nights.

When we arrived we found a dingy tourist cabin from the sixties. Our family is used to camping, but this didn't even measure up to our pop up camper in ambience. The fully equipped kitchen had newer cabinets and counter top, but no dishwasher. The furniture looked like it had been picked up at various garage sales. Nothing about the place made it worth $190.00 a night. The desk clerk graciously gave us 20 minutes to find alternate accomodations, and when we did he refunded our entire stay.

We found a room at a Hampton Inn in New Braunfels that for 130 per night included a hot breakfast every morning. We loved the actual waterpark, but would advise travelers to stay elsewhere as there were many motels in town.

The park is divided into two parts, it's very hard to get a good overview of it. We've checked in for the older part of the park and we were told that a free shuttle runs every 20 minutes between the two part transporting swimmers from one side to another side. Every side has his own rides and seemed to be divided in another two parts. I concluded that the parks contained two resortparts and four swimming parts. Very complicating.
Checking is was ok, the staff was friendly and explained the rules of the park. We're getting green bracelets and we had to wear it all the time so the guards would recon us as legal inhabitants. We're also allowed to use the oldest part of the park without additional charges (parkguest get a discount of 20% of the normal entrancefee.)
Our house was simple but good enough for kids. So far, so good.
During the night a strange loud sound wake me. It hold on for at least 5-10 minutes and it seems to be from a drunk guy who drove his car along the narrow roads in the park and blew his horn. This happenend 7 times, but after the thirth time I got up, walked to the front desk and complaint about the noise. The answer was suprising: the noise came for a train and every train has to blew is horn when passing unguared levelcrossings. That was the law and the man gesticulated with his arms in the air. He also told this happened at least 4 times every night. Some houses were very close to the railway (20 meters!) I couldn't believe this explanation as I didn't read something about it on their website.
The next day I canceled our second day and the staff (still very friendly) feel very sorry for this and gave me a refund of the second day. The lady told me that guest who book by phone are told that there can be some noise from trains and than it's up to the guest to make his decision. It would be fair to publish about this circumstances on the website.
We came over from Europe to visit this park and we spoiled our money and time.

Just returned from a one night stay at the Resort at the Rapids. Very acceptable rooms ,our room had a set of bunk beds our grandchildren loved. Great park for young children , don't know about lines, since we didn't do thrill rides. Bring your own groceries ,there are grills and rooms have fridges and microwaves, some have full kitchens. We enjoyed the hot tubs and pools late into the evening, as these are available to guests of the resort after the park closes. Wish we had stayed longer. Before leaving we booked two nights next month, and we have a four and a half hour drive both ways. Go and have a grand time!!!!

We made arrangements to stay 2 nights at this location after looking at misleading photos online of what appeared to be a nice place with landscaped grounds and stunning views of the Comal River. Dont' let the website fool you. Things to know about this place:

- Arrangements to check in before 4PM or just drop off luggage prior to check-in time costs $8 per hour. The property owner was reluctant to allow early check-in because he did not want to upset his cleaning staff. The owner also added that he prefers not to allow early check-in in order to keep wear and tear on his units to a minimum.
- Reservations are prepaid and cannot be canceled for any reason within the 14-day period.
- Bed linens are heavily worn, stained and soiled. When addressed, the owner indicated they tried their best to get the stains off.
- Mattresses are heavily used, noisy, extremely uncomfortable. You can literally see and feel the coils pressing through the fitted sheets.
- Pillows are paper thin and cases are worn and faded.
- Walls are thin, expect to hear your next door and upstairs neighbors as well as passing traffic.
- Parking is extremely limited. The property allows 1 car per room and no more.
- Be aware that some people grill from the back of their trucks in the parking lot
- For $170 per night you can do much better!!!
