Went to dinner with a friend to try Joe's for the first time. We ordered oysters on the half shell. They tasted very fresh and were a nice size. We ordered mixed drinks from the bar...including Lemon Drops. The Lemon Drop was okay, I don't think the bartender gets a lot of requests for those. Looking at the menu, we were very surprised to find only a couple of kinds of fish...cod and salmon. We ordered different things so we could sample. Off menu we tried the gumbo...at least that's what they called it. It tasted like flour and looked as white as snow. It had chopped up tiny pieces of shrimp and disintegrated pieces of fish. The fried seafood was over cooked, especially the oysters. The batter to heavy, not light and crispy. When you cut open the fish, it was greasy and soggy. The crab cake and stuffed crab had no crab that we could see...just stuffing. The baked potatoes were cold and under cooked. The grilled seafood was a little better. If you are not but a little over an hour from the coast, why is there not better seafood choices, especially fish? Why not fried catfish, grilled redfish, snapper or flounder. No gumbo...just chowder and corn crab bisque is more for a eastern menu. The waitress was nice, but new and learning. Best if you just want a beer and oysters on the shell. Don't know if we will be back...

Had a quick lunch with friends. Our server was friendly and attentive. I had the Caesar Salad which was really good. Our friends had a mixed fish platter which they said was ok but not great. The french fries were good. Would maybe go back for the salad but not the fish.

This new restaurant is very attractive. We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer. They were clearly not cooked so I asked the waiter if they looked properly cooked (undercooked fish can be dangerous) but he said he didn't know what they should look like (that's troubling) but he'd ask the cook. He took them away. We did not see him again until he brought our entrees at which time he told us the cook said the crab cakes were undercooked and should not have looked like they did. He did not bring us new (actually cooked) crab cakes or offer to remove them from our bill.
Our entree, crab corn chowder, was excellent. I'll write this off as a poorly trained wait staff and hope that they train them better in the future.
The owner was there, working on a laptop at the bar. We did not complain. and he never asked any of the tables if their food was good.

I ordered the grilled Nathan's plant and my friend ordered the fried seafood platter. We had oysters on the half shell, gumbo and drinks. The oysters were fresh and excellent! The gumbo was white and tasted like pasty flour, no seasoning, chopped shrimp and pieces of fish. The fried cod was greasy and fried in cracker meal which came apart from the fish and had no seasoning. The oysters were the same. The grilled shrimp were good and had flavor. The stuffed crab and crab cake was mooshy and no crab to be seen. Why using cod?? Needs a better selection of grilled and fried fish choices. Lemon drop drinks not all that great. Baked potatoes not fully cooked and cold. Sorry but won't be going back again. For a $50 (tax and tip) dinnde it was not worth it!
