You must go get a Big O (beer) and a chicken fried steak if you're in Waco! Best chicken fried steak in town!

The Crazy Wings are also a must! They're chicken breast pieces with cheese and a jalapeno in the middle, surrounded by bacon. Absolutely great!

George's is probably the most Waco restaurant in Waco.

We went here on the recommendation of the front desk agent at our hotel. When you first see it, you may not think much of it. But don't let that stop you.
Once inside, you are warmly greeted. The service is awesome. The food was fresh and very good. I am definitely going back, my next time in Waco.

Thank Don W

I have been going to George's for a long time. The service is ALWAYS good even if its really crowded, and I have NEVER been disappointed with the quality and/or taste of my meal.

George's Restaurant is an old established eatery in Waco
known for their great country cooking and located just a couple
of exits south of the Baylor University campus on the west side
of I-35. It has a kinda redneck feel to the place - really casual
and laidback and probably why I like it so much. I told my wife
that I expected to see Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy
eating there. They would feel right at home!

This last stop, on my way back home from San Antonio, was
only my second visit to the place, but definitely won't be the last.
The great comfort food and their selections to choose from, as
well as the family-friendly atmosphere, is most likely the reason
why they're such an institution in Waco. For the quality and
quantity of the food served, it's hard to beat, especially at their
reasonable prices. This is especially true if you can go between
11:00 am - 3:00 pm (Mon. - Fri.) for their terrific lunch specials
at $5.99. Their menu offers everything from burgers, sand-
wiches, and soups, to Mexican dishes, fish, and steak (and the
list goes on). They're also open for the breakfast crowd.

No matter where you're sitting in George's, you can't help but
notice that they're big-time supporters of the hometown Baylor
Bears by all of the football paintings, signs, and pictures all over
the walls. The place also has a large bar with drink specials
and is open Mon. - Sat. from 6:30 am - midnight. In addition they
also operate a huge catering business.

On my recent visit, my wife and I both ordered the chicken fried
steak lunch special which was really good, although it wasn't as
big as it initially appeared because of all the batter. Luckily, I
like a lot of batter. The strange part came when I asked our out-
standing waiter if we got bread with the meal and he said, "the
bread is on request." We requested it! That was a first. Several
home cooking places that I've frequented over the years auto-
matically bring out a basket of homemade rolls and cornbread.
After all, this is Texas and who wants meat without bread? We
thought that maybe the owners were transplanted Yankees who
came down from the North and decided to stay. Who knows?

George's, like I've said, is outstanding if you're really into home-
made country cooking like I am. No matter if it's breakfast,
lunch, or dinner they have something on the menu for everyone.
You won't be disappointed.
