What a transformation from regular lunch space for skiers to an amazing dinning room. Each of the 4 huge fireplaces has a special meal of Swiss raclette cheese, cured meats, salads, specialty entrees, hearty sides, fire-roasted leg of lamb, fresh baked breads and dessert fondues. Might want to skip breakfast/lunch so you can really enjoy this all you can eat experience.

The Empire Lodge is outfitted with food stations: most by fireplaces. Diners start with cheese melted by the heat of the fire, then garnished at another station with prosciutto, pickled onions, etc. Next, another fireplace has prime rib, veal stew , salmon and quail. There are assorted veggies to go with. Delicious. Next, leg of lamb which has been cooked by the fire all day. So good I returned twice. Finally, there is desert station with various cups of melted chocolate, caramel and fruits to dip, plus merengue, cookies, etc. The wait staff takes drink and wine orders, clears your plates when you go to another station, replenishes the silverware. Even though there are lots of people the tables are spaced so no one is cramped. A great experience.

This is a unique format in that the four course meal is served along side each of the many fireplaces. Begin with the warm cheese raclette served with mustards, cured meats, a strawberry jam and more. Move on to the soup and salad area then on to the first fireplace featuring trout, quail and a delicious veal stew. Next was a fireplace featuring lamb and a delicious Brussels sprout salad with balsamic, cheese, and Italian bread. Of course the finale of fresh fruit, cake, fritter and accompanying chocolate dips was a highlight. Chefs attend each station and the wait staff keeps clean utensils coming. Great way to end our ski vacation with friends!

Bring your appetite...you will want to sample everything on this tapas-style lodge restaurant then go back for more. Giant fireplaces anchor the stations. Start your multi-course meal with raclette cheese dipping plates, melted in the wood-burned heat, and served with bread, mini potatoes, and deli meats. Move next to the stew fire for slow-roasted meats and the sides/salads cold station. Around the corner is the fireplace for mutton legs and carved meats. Save room for the embarrassment of riches at the sweets fireplace for chocolate fondue. Nice atmosphere, attentive servers, well done. Free transportation on the city bus line...get to the hub at least 45 minutes before your reservation in order to catch the right bus for your reservation (purple line, I think), running on the half-hour.
