The Fan House is a wonderful, old, warm, and authentic house. We had expected to stay in Woodstock for a few days, but found that every place was booked. Best thing that could happen to us. We found The Fan House in nearby Barnard. Owner Sara Widness was very welcoming and her home could not be more comfortable. Breakfasts were wonderful -- you really need to have the pumpkin pancakes. Perhaps even better was the company at breakfast -- very stimulating and fun. We strongly recommend a stay at Sara's.

The Fan House is a comfortable and pretty place to stay in Barnard. Within walking distance to the lake and the general store, this B and B's charms lie in the history of the home, the eclectic collections of books, paintings, and decorative objects in every room; and the lovely lady who runs it. We stayed in the well-outfitted King room. Very comfortable bed, good toiletries, nice shower, WIFI, full length mirror, nice robes, fluffy pillows and nice linens. Sara makes a lovely breakfast (fresh fruit, granola, yogurt and either eggs or waffles, etc) that starts the day just right. Highly recommend.

Beautiful bed & breakfast, very New-England style. Full of artworks.
The room was very comfortable.
Very peaceful setting. Well maintained garden.
The owner, Sara, was wonderful. She gave good advices, cooked tasteful breakfasts and was of a great help when needed, espacially when we realised we were missing something for the ceremony.

We recently stayed at Fan House B&B for two nights throughout our long weekend journey to middle Vermont. This is an excellent location if you seek an accommodation close to Woodstock VT, but removed from the tourist traffic. Within walking distance of the location is a state park that offers kayak and canoe rentals and opportunities to swim in the lake. The B&B owner, Sara Widness is a delightful hostess. The entire facility is warmly furnished with beautiful artwork. There is an excellent library containing a wide range of books ranging from history to fiction to Vermont travel guides. Upstairs there are three bedrooms each uniquely designed. The bed linens are exquisite; comfortable, elegant and European style. The entire facility is delightful inclusive of the English style perennial garden in full bloom. Breakfasts are delicious and ranged from freshly baked steaming popovers served along with scrambled eggs topped with chives from the garden to homemade crepes accompanied by fresh strawberries and blueberries. Overall excellent Vermont B&B experience. We would readily return.

Wonderful stay last weekend in VT. Sara was very welcoming and helpful. Immediately upon arrival, she asked if we had dinner plans, and when we said no, made a suggestion and then called and got us reservations nearby. The room was very comfortable, breakfast was quite nice.
