Though I was immediately offered a 10% discount on the $100/night rate (8-26-12) for riding a bike, my budget had not included a room for this night, anticipating staying with a friend. However, after going up the road and seeing what was available for $60/night, I turned around and went back! Nolan was pleasant and welcoming, though I had now interrupted his dinner twice!

It wasn't just that the Swanton has a pool, I felt comfortable and safe, as a woman traveling alone. It was a beautiful evening and I was so impressed with both the room and the grounds, I wandered about taking photographs, feeling no need to close the door to my room while in or out!

I travel a lot, staying in everything from little independent motels to the Hilton. The Swanton is the Hilton of the little independents! Wooden hangers, glass drinking vessels, ceramic coffee cups, with metal spoons, and a vase of colourful silk flowers on the bureau are a touch of class rivaling the Clarion!

The room, and the bathroom, were exceptionally clean. The soap dispensers at the sink and in the shower are neat, sanitary, and thrifty. The towels are thick and snuggily soft. The spray from the shower head could have been better, and I felt only mild temperature fluctuations at the tail end of a long, hot shower.

I found the bed to be very comfortable, with extra blankets and pillows in the dresser. The room was well lit, with easily accessible switches; whether in the bathroom, sitting at the table, or reading in bed.

The bedside drawer holds a folder containing the menus of local eating establishments, several of which offer delivery services. Optionally, the coffee pot, microwave, and refrigerator provide the means to store and prepare personal supplies at will.

Entertainment options in the room include a flat screen, cable TV, DVD player (with DVDs available at the office), and Wi-Fi. Outside, across a well paved parking lot, is a BBQ patio next to the pool and tended gardens.

There was a patched section behind the door that had yet to be painted. It had been properly repaired, the white of the spackle the only clue there had been damage.

This is a family run motel, with the feel of being welcomed into a private extension of their home, without the personal interactions of a bed and breakfast. Nolan was quick to point out that all the quaint little touches are that of his mom, while he is just learning how to take care of everything.

The Swanton Motel is a rare gem for guests of the road! Highly recommended.

The spray from the shower head should be better now and temperature fluctuations less. We've replaced the pipes to the south half of the motel with larger sizes to allow more flow and making changes to the hot water system to address issues that were also contributing to temperature fluctuations.

I did not feel as if the website was accurate in talking about the check list for the cleaning of the rooms . Upon arrival I always check to make sure the fridge and coffee maker are working . Our coffee maker still had coffee in the pot and the coffee filter in the basket from the previous guest . Obviously that step was overlooked in the cleaning of the room.
Also the sheets and towels , although clean , could have used a little bleach had a gray look to them .

There is no excuse for not using the cleaning checklist. First and foremost we are to sell CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. This experience should not have happened.

We had to leave last year to take care of my ill mother in Maine. My son is managing the motel for us and has had a few little bumps along the way. We have re-inforced the need to use the cleaning checklist meticulously, and to check-up on his cleaners. I believe this has been rectified.

We have also purchased new sheets for the entire motel, although bleach is always used. We will watch more closely.

My husband, two of my siblings, and I stayed in one of the suites. Only one room had air conditioning or cable, which was inconvenient to say the least. To share any cool air with the other room, you had to leave the connecting door open, which then removed any chance of privacy. Also, no fan in the bathroom made it awkward any time someone needed to use it, as you could clearly hear whatever the person was doing.

The refrigerator was nice for storing breakfast and drinks. The shower was inconsistent, alternating between scalding and freezing without touching the dial. Wifi was free and very fast.

We would probably stay here again in the off season, when prices fit the amenities (but only in the double rooms). In peak season however, when the chain hotel in St. Albans is similarly priced with the addition of providing breakfast, we will probably stay there.

Ran out of toilet paper and could not get more because the motel office was not open at 8:00 am. As long as you know this is a family-run place and can adjust your expectations and needs accordingly, it's a fine place to stay.

We have reinforced the checklist; all rooms are double-checked. We very responsive to our guests and attend immediately to may make your stay comfortable.

We have installed a louder buzzer in the house to capture our attention when office is "closed". Although attended 24 hours per day, we do "close" the office to go to bed. With the new system, and a little time, we will awaken to attend the need.

We place our soaps in dispensers in two locations: one by the sink (hand soap) and a second in the shower (hair and body soap). We've added labels to make it clear. Our soap dispensers have garnered a lot of positive responses. We also keep bars of soap to provide to guests (upon request) for those that prefer them.

We provide an extra 2 rolls of toilet paper in all double rooms and 3 extra rolls in suites. It is interesting to note that this reviewer has posted many reviews where she runs out of toilet paper.

We are solving the A/C and water temperature fulctuation issues.

Our prices are always less than St. Albans chains especially since we honor discounts during peaks.

i wouldn't stay there again because since my stay the prices went to $175 a night. could stay someplace else cheaper with better service.

4 of us reserved one of the two "suites" that the motel has. One room had 2 dbl. beds, air conditioner, flat-screen TV on the wall with cable, DVD, small refrigerator, coffee pot, clock radio/alarm, microwave and snacks to buy for $1.00 each. (leave the money in the room for the snacks) The other room had two twin beds, a clock radio/alarm that we unplugged due to a aloud buzzing sound that was not the alarm and a flat-screen TV on the wall with a built-in DVD player but NO cable. That didn't make us too happy. The office does have about 1000 DVD's to borrow, but not the same as having access to cable. Also, the room opened into the small room from the outside. Bathroom had a door from the main bedroom and one from the smaller bedroom. It was very clean, but I think the shower stall needs to be replace. No fan in the bathroom, so it steams up pretty good, especially after 4 showers. The two rooms were very clean, although the runner into the room was stained and maybe should have been removed or changed. I was a little worried about only one air-conditioner because it was a very humid weekend but it was fine as long as you kept the door opened between the two rooms. There was a lovely swimming pool that we didn't have the time to use. We would definitely stay here again. I did tell the management that we would appreciate cable TV in the smaller room next year. We'll see.

We will extend the cable to the other TV.

Not sure why I never noticed the lack of fan in the bathroom but this is second mention. We will install one.
