This is a bare bones hotel that is clean and in a quiet area. I say bare bones, because our room, a standard king, had more empty floor space than space covered with furniture. It was also an unusual configuration. Normally, the bed is on a side wall. This room had the bed with its back to the hallway on the wall to the closet and bathroom. Since we just stopped for the night while on the road, the following did not matter to us: The TV was 32 in and was in the corner next to the window, a very long distance from the bed. It would be difficult to watch that TV from that distance. On a positive note, unlike many other Hilton properties at which I stayed recently, they had a typical Hampton breakfast and made no excuses about a shortage of workers.

We usually do well in Hampton Inns, but faced several obstacles to a good stay in Harrisonburg VA. After settling into our room, I kept hearing a mechanical pulsing noise through the wall. The room was next to a linen room, unknown if the noise was from there. As a light sleeper, I knew this would be a problem, it was quite loud and consistent. Credit to the front desk clerk who changed us to another room. Next, inexplicably, there are no REGULAR tea bags available in the hotel?! HUH? Not at the coffee kiosk, not at the breakfast area. Only herbal teas. A worker matter-of-factly stated that "we don't carry that anymore". This can't be some type of anti-caffeine movement by the chain as there was coffee everywhere and the next Hampton we stayed at (Gettysburg) indeed had regular tea! Strange. The final "surprise" was a broken shower, so showers in the morning didn't happen. Stopped at the front desk on the way out to report this, but alas, there was no one manning the desk and we had to hit the road. It was room 507 by the way.

I cannot believe that this ratty hotel is flying under the Hilton banner! The entire hotel needs a serious rehab. From the “vandalized” elevator to the dirty looking and horribly frayed carpeting and peeling varnish. These are just a few of the things wrong here.
We count on the Hilton line to deliver a decent place to stay. I guess we were wrong in that assumption.

Room tip: Go elsewhere

Hampton Inn is our default place to stay when travelling. This hotel was fine, especially the breakfast which was plentiful and well prepared. But housekeeping needs to be done at least every other day for multi-night stays.

This is our go to hotel when visiting Massanutten. It’s a wonderful hotel. We love the fireplace in the lobby along with the popcorn machine and coffee. The front desk person was extremely nice as well.
