Excellent place, really helpful staff. We were travelling with one-yr old baby and they went out of their way to help us. We stayed in one of their delux rooms which was lovely and handy to have more room with the baby. Beach pretty good (better ones nearby) and no direct access from hotel - need to cross car park to get to it. Food was good - entertainment in evening mostly good, the odd slightly naff evening! We would recommend you have a car if you stay here - Tamarin is pretty quiet and there are better beaches to be found along the coast. However, if you don't want to spend a fortune at some 5 star place and want quiet resort, this is a perfect place.

We stayed here in 2007 and i am only just getting round to writing reviews on trip advisor. We really enjoyed our stay and the food was absolutely brilliant. The chef was very friendly and all the staff excellent. Cocktail du soir was always innovative and we started each evening in this way - not expensive at all

The hotel was a little tired looking but clean and we had such a good deal - it didnt really bother us. We hired a car and explored the Island by day, so there was no point in staying at a 5 star hotel.

Would recommend - we booked through expedia

Just back from 2 weeks half board. Really enjoyed the relaxed & friendly atmospehere of this French owned 3* hotel with its quirky 70s retro decor (although recently redecorated). We booked with Expedia, though there were plenty of Saga folk on AI, who were friendly & talkative. Great live bands each night, leaning towards Jazz more nights than not & staff helpfulness & friendliness was excellent. Highly recommended.

This place was AWESOME!!! Absolutely loved it! Tamarin Bay beach is really beautiful....surrounded by pine trees and beautiful clear water with small waves rolling in. The hotel itself is very laid back and relaxed...there was a real mix of people and we had the feeling that many people were return guests....there were golden oldies, young families and young couples. The breakfast and dinners were really yummy and good value for money being included in the cost of the accommodation. The staff were always friendly and fixed the shower head in our bathroom straight away when it was pointed out.

Don't expect 5 star luxury rooms...but they're full of funky retro character and for the price were clean and comfortable with views of the pool, garden and the beach.

They had entertainment every night after dinner in their 'beach bar'...jazz, sega dancing etc. The hotel also has a movie theatre, 2 computers for free internet access for guests, library and free activities everyday. e.g. boulles, kayaking etc.

The south western coast of Mauritius was one of our favourite locations in the whole of Mauritius (having seen the whole island now!!)......beautiful aqua water to snorkel in, bushwalking, nice uncrowded beaches...not much traffic on the roads!

Enjoy!!

We are a retired couple, over 65 yrs. We stayed in the Tamarin for 2 weeks and then went on to stay with our nephew who lives in Tamarin for a further week. We invited our family over for dinner at the hotel, also drinks. This hotel was ideally situated for our needs being close to our relations.
The bedroom and bathroom were basic but were very clean with all linen changed daily and beach towels available as requested. The beach across the road was OK and shaded by trees - very welcome - but the sea was warm and lovely with great views.
The meals were very good with lots of variety and plenty of choice. There were themed nights with food and entertainment relating to the theme, ie Chinese - a great night.
The entertainment was brilliant - great jazz musicians - nothing overpowering and very relaxed.
The grounds were well-kept and the pool and loungers clean. The staff were very friendly and as the hotel is small you were recognised, not one of a number.
We went to Domain Anna, a restaurant with music and dance floor where we had a brilliant evening - we recommend this lovely place. We also recommend a meal at the hotel Les Sirandanes in Riviere Noire, if you want lovely 'pretty' food with personal service. This is right on the beach and wonderful to eat with the sound of the waves lapping in the moonlight!
Eating out in Mauritius is very cheap, especially lunches. The local wine is also cheap and not bad either as with the local beers. A lunch at the Country Club in Tamarin is also recommended.
We hired a car which is a must to get around and we have left the East Coast to explore on another trip. Grand Baie and Flic en Flac are worth a visit for beautiful beaches.
THE TAMARIN HOTEL IS FANTASTIC VALUE FOR MONEY, funky, jazzy, friendly, surf.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
