My son and I were traveling to JMU to visit his girlfriend. All the hotels were way over-priced with it being homecoming weekend. I stumbled across this place and called for their rates. They did not jack their rates up just because it was homecoming weekend. I like that about people. We stayed in a golf course view room. Loved the view of the course with the mountains in the background. The room was very clean. That is what I care about the most. This hotel is a little older, however the room was spotless! I loved sitting outside on my patio every morning having my coffee. I also liked the pub/restaurant. Nice little place to have a beer and some food. So affordable that we actually ate here two out of the three nights that we were in town! I have never paid less for a beer in my life!!! LOL The front desk staff were so welcoming! Everyone was genuinely friendly! I will stay here again when we return to the area.

Room tip: Love the golf course view rooms,

We were looking for a pet friendly hotel to get out of the DC area for a weekend break. The Shenvalee hit the spot, and was an undexpected 'find'. Fair prices, perfectly fine accommodations (ok, rooms are old, but well kept, recently renovated, and if you ask for a golf course view, provides a spectacular vista of the mountains) and service extremely efficient and friendly. Can not say enough about the staff, who went out of their way to ensure that we had a pleasant stay, were flexible with pet needs, and served a hearty breakfast! The golf courses are very well kept, and amazing to see this type of scenery within 2 hours of a major metro area. Highly recommend! Only downsides? Noisy A/C unit behind building towards golf course, and beds that seem to 'roll around the room'!

Room tip: Ask for the golf side on the first floor.

Shenvalee is a great place to have a fun weekend golf getaway for large groups. We have been visiting Shenvalee for over 10 years. The golf is great. The course will challenge the higher handicaps, but fairly easy to lower handicaps.

Don't expect the rooms to be like a Marriott or Hampton Inn. The rooms at Shenvalee are old, but are as clean as they can be. Bathrooms are certainly outdated. But to guys, no problem. The gals may have a different opinion.

Order off the menu for breakfast. The breakfast buffet doesn't suit me too well. As some of the other review mention, the food is not their specialty. If not drinking, do yourself a favor. Go in town to eat or make the treck to Edinburg and eat at Sal's.

Our group of 4 lady golfers stayed for 3 days of golf. We had a really nice stay. The most outstanding thing we appreciated was the hospitality. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We ate at Miller Grille every evening. Had a great breakfast each morning (included in our package) A very nice buffet was set up, you could make waffles too. You could also order off the menu . Rooms were clean and comfortable and we loved the convenience of the bag holders in the lower level rooms. You can pull your cart right up to your room door and load. Three courses to play during our stay. Some were very challenging!!! It was very dry and very hot, but they were watering every day we were there. Thank you all for a really good experience, and will definitely be back!!

Room tip: If going as a golfer, you may want to ask for a lower level room, for convenient bag loading.

My husband ordered the fish and chips, didn't expect Mrs. Gordon's frozen fish! I had the loaded nachos and they came "unloaded" (no chili). We would not recommend this place to eat. The gold course might me ok but......
