“Path broken off after 1km from church”
Review of Levada do Moinho

Please beware that a part of the path is broken off. We started the path at the church this morning and found that after about 1km a 2.5-3m gap appears in the path. We did not deem it crossable and turned around. All that remains is the ledge of the levada and the levada itself. We encountered people working on the path a bit closer to the church and they were not aware of it.

Had a very lovely morning walking to levada do moinho. It was BEAUTIFUL -so many different landscapes and views! There were railings the majority of the way and only a few occassions where we had to walk a thin bit. One of us has a severe phobia of heights and although he was nervous to start with, he enjoyed the walk. We turned back once we reached levada do moinho instead of continuing to levada nova which was recommended to us due to the fear of heights.

At the beginning of this trail stand out the well cultivated farmland, providing a pleasant sight to walkers. Among them stand out the fantastic panoramic views of the valley and the beautiful village of Ponta do Sol, that this route offers us.

Enjoy the walk and all that it has to offer. Delight yourself with the sights, the endemic flora and fauna and waterfalls.

By the end of the route you can climb the path that leads to the Levada Nova. Once there, follow the opposite direction until you reach the impressive waterfall of this Levada. It is certainly a fascinating vision that deserves a few moments of contemplation before continuing.

Length - 9 km; Time - 4 hours; Difficulty - Moderate

The hike offers amazing views and a great variety. Unquestionnably the highlight is the waterfall which appears after one has crossed a 200m tunnel. Further on the path leads you below the waterfall

sometimes sunny, sometimes foggy, sometimes dense forrest, sometimes burned forrest, sometimes jungle, sometimes typical european forest, meadows, relics from ice age, few waterfalls and cascades.. many stairs along the way... a bit harder to get to the levada (into two houses near the village center)
