After staying with Barcelo previously in Menorca we were really looking for ward to this trip. How wrong were we!!! Lack of staff and management meant the restaurant was left dirty and getting anywhere near the food was a fight. Service was poor and slow. The rooms were cleaned every day however staff had to be reminded to refill the shower gel and empty the bins. The location of this hotel however is amazing.

good points location amazing, rooms very clean and maids work so hard, nice pool free WiFi, friendly staff, bad points lifts terrible only 1 out off three were working some days, food was not good, we ended up eating out in the evenings, as didn’t like the food at all the only good thing about breakfast was the freshly made omelette and pancakes, the food was never hot, the dining room is a joke, like a free for all, not enough seats cutlery, they never kept food replenished, quick enough, the dining staff overworked, god no’s what it will be like in high season, it’s such a shame, that the hotel doesn’t nearly Mach location

The location of this hotel is simply amazing as it overlooks a gorgeous cove with its own bar/restaurant. The rooms are very dated and in need of a total refurb inside and out but they are spotless with daily change of towels and bed linen twice a week. Unfortunately, there is no fridge or tea/coffee facilities in the room which should be standard in 2018 especially as it gets soo hot so nowhere to put your wine!!. Food in main restaurant is of a good quality with lots of variety. Staff work so hard replenishing the food and clearing the tables and always have a smile and an hello. Reception staff are very friendly and will assist with all of your queries. The lifts are a nightmare as can be left waiting 10 plus minutes. There are lots of steps inside and out so if you do have mobility issues then i personally would not recommend it. The main centre with loads of restaurants and shops is a 10-15 minute walk but there are nearer bars/restaurants just outside the hotel. Eatting out is on par with the UK pint of lager €3.50 - €4.75, bottle of wine €15 upwards, 1litre sangria €10 upwards. I did enjoy my stay but there is so much more potential if this hotel was updated.

Hi,myself and my wife stayed here for a week in May, and found it to be an average hotel with some good and some bad points. first the good points, located right by the sea, always a good point, staff very good and work very hard,rooms cleaned every day which is a plus, and the food was quite good and quite varied, only point I would like to make is there should be a seperate queue for the hot plate food maybe away to the side as when you were trying to get something from offerings at the side of the hot plate , you couldnt get near it as poeple wouldnt budge in case you were trying to skip in front of them. The other point I would make is when it hits full season there wouldnt be enough seats for everyone as poeple were walking about with a plate in there hand looking for somewhere to sit, and when you see someone about to leave , you had to be quick. Maybe a two tier system would work whereby you had an early sitting then a late sitting on alternative nights, because as it is to many poeple, to little places for them to sit. As I said, plus and minus's, but all in all we had a good A/I stay at the Barcelo Ponent Playa.

Room Tip: Sea View on a high floor.

Rooms - Our room smelt slightly damp however it was cleaned thoroughly everyday and given new towels etc. Furniture was very old most of it was chipped with bits of wood taken off. They also have no double beds so can be annoying if you come as a couple as the beds slip apart during the night. We had a nice balcony area which was good to sit out on in the evening, however we were over looking the entertainment so it was very noisy until around 12am but this didn't bother us too much. The worst thing about the rooms was how thin the walls are, you could hear when the person next door flushes the toilet, and doors are slammed all early morning as well as suitcases being rolled down the corridor. Although there is a lot of bad things to mention, we only used our room to sleep, get ready and shower to it did not affect our holiday a great deal.

Staff - Staff were always very friendly and polite, cleaners always did a great job of tidying your room and replacing towels, bed sheets etc.

Food - Breakfast was good, good selection of foods - fry up, cold meats, fruit, pastries, cakes, breads you name it. Lunch time we had snacks round the beach bar including pizza, chicken nuggets, chips, this was also good, however we found at dinner times the food was disgusting and had to eat out every night despite being all inclusive. I would say if you are a fussy eater like me don't go for all inclusive.

Location - The location really makes this hotel, Cala Ferrea beach is just on the doorstep, we went here everyday and it is a lovely beach, the sea is crystal clear and good for snorkelling. You can also rent a pedalo boat for 12 Euros, which we did and it was fun. There is also man that comes along the beach and sells fresh fruit everyday as well as masseuse who gives massages on the beach. There is lots of local shops and restaurants just down the road from the hotel, however we found the best restaurants and bars etc were a 25 min walk away in Cala d'Or.

Overall I had a great holiday but this was due to the hotels location, I think if this hotel was done up and food improved it would be perfect.
