Living and working in Gravesend, you cannot avoid the amazement that is the Gurdwara. It’s only when you take the time to actually get close and visit that I really have begun to understand this building for its unique architecture & scale, with its amazing domes and design inspired as advised on a visit by the Golden Temple at Amritsa.
The workmanship and details of the crafted marble and stonework and colourful interior tiling, with stain glass windows has left a lasting impression and its clearly somewhere that was built not just by money but with care and love.
The information available and tour advice that 1200 worshippers can meet inside the Gurdwara and its facilities boast a range of educational rooms, library and two kitchens, certainly is the minimal amount of information you can take in when you enter this amazing structure.
There are of course formalities for all to follow in covering your head, removing your shoes and as a non - Sikh, showing respect to the Sikh “Holy Scriptures” by bowing, or standing still for a second and then moving away with a respectful nod as you enter the temple but this is the least of effort and respect required.
The Gurdwara is testament to Gravesend's Sikh community and with a council run car park outside, you have no excuse not to visit this amazing location and welcoming respectful community.

Absolute must...took my breath away and was totally in awe. That was just at the entrance where the beautiful carved marble dome welcomes you. Once inside you can experience more beauty and craftmanship in total peace and reverence. Definately take a visit and come away feeling spiritually lifted and humbled.

Have been aware of this Gurdwara for some time - finally visited it today - I was truly impressed by the architecture and although it was very busy it exudes a peaceful atmosphere - sitting in the front courtyard you could be in India! I am not a Sikh but am very respectful of people's beliefs and faiths - very welcoming place.

Went for lunch at the new Cafe 1809, was a real treat.
I use the the cyclopark park for fitness classes most days, but it was really nice to use the cafe on a social stop taking my friend for lunch.
Food is fantastic, really tasty, prepared to order - I had the chicken & mango wrap which tasted amazing- nicely presented, not cheap, but you get what you pay for!!
Staff really friendly & excited to tell us about the cafe and what Dame Kelly Holmes's vision for the cafe is.
Will definitely be back!!
