Owner description: A world-class research and teaching facility, the Bonne Bay Marine Station on Newfoundland's breath-taking west coast is dedicated to expanding knowledge of marine ecology. Take an interactive tour of our aquarium and observe some of the marine plants and animals living in Bonne Bay. We will introduce you to fragile marine plankton, the "saltwater soup" of our oceans. Get your hands wet among the sea stars, coralline algae, hermit crabs, and other curious creatures living in our ever popular touch tank. Storyboards, underwater footage, and interactive displays inform visitors about our latest research endeavors. Tours are provided by knowledgeable, friendly, student interpreters, and are approximately 45 minutes in duration.

The young woman we had as our guide was very articulate and possessed a vast amount of knowledge of the marine life in the Bay Area. The ability to interact with some of the sea creatures was a real thrill. The displays of live creatures and the interpretive exhibits were a real highlight. This was a suitable introduction to the adjacent Boat Ride. A must do.

We visited on a rainy day, and took the tour and learned a lot about marine life. We learned hot to tell a male lobster from a female, not as easy as you would think. We saw two blue lobsters that are very rare and entered a contest to name one. We enjoyed the tank, that we could touch and hold hold sea creatures at,the starfish was my favourite. We saw the skeleton of a large whale and heard about others th st had came ashore and where their skeletons were, very interesting informative afternoon

This is a great rainy day activity if you're in the area. Fairly inexpensive admission, but be aware this is a small centre and will take adults easily less than an hour to do/see everything. Kids will probably be quite entertained with the touch tank and they have many tanks of live sea life on display for the guided tour as well.

Spend at least 45 minutes learning about the local waters. Tour the back room aquariums. Learn from the university students. Touch and hold local sea life
