Business trip with 2 kids in tow, was a great place to stay with the pool, friendly guests and staff, fantastic location. Felt more like a holiday than work. We will definitely be back and plan to spend more time here!

Stayed at hotel with group from USA on Hallmark Tours on Jan18 thru 20th.There were 3 other groups at the same time as ours..At check out on 20th only 4 rooms had issues with WiFi charges. All rooms had same password and the hotel wanted to charge us for time not used.A peaceful conversation was being taken with the desk clerk when the Manager on Duty comes and started talking loud and said “You people are always causing problems. You are not leaving my property until you pay or I will get you all arrested”Then he started saying F*** O** to Barry our friend and told him to leave his property now or he going to call the police. This manager has issues and took out his aggression on us for other issues he has. We tried to talk peace fully telling him we our hotel owners and understood the issue but the charges for dates being talked about we were out all day
The tour operators picked up the bill..This manager is a racist and should NOT be working at any place with public interactionThis manager has anger manager issues. All guests involved in this matter are Hotel Owners in the USA and one individual Has five ****** hotels in his portfolio. No manager like this should be working at any hotel. Do not stay at any hotel with Copthorne name or being managed by them

Good Afternoon. Thank you for providing feedback about your stay with us. The hotel offers 500MB complimentary per 24 hours and this plan is available via you room and can be also used in the lobby and restaurant/bar area. Outside of these charges there are other data plans available for varying fees depending on the amount of Data required. At the time of purchase the guest has to agree to the terms and conditions and then accept the charges. Theses charges are automatically charged to the guests room for settlement on departure. After viewing the reception's CCTV footage which also has sound the way this incident played out was different to what has been described here. The 2 receptionists on duty were being threatened by the entire group with fingers being pointed in close proximity to the staff and the repeated accusations towards the staff of being liers and thieves due to them asking for payment of confirmed wifi charges on the rooms. The manager on duty attended this situation due to the behaviour of the group and the friend called Barry then made the same accusations towards the manager on duty but in a more threatening manner and also using the "F" word to try and re-enforce his points raised. The manager on duty then sternly told this man to leave or the police would be called due to the aggressive and abusive behaviour exhibited. At the point the manager was then threatened with the police on him due to him being a thief and a lier, again free use of the "F" word was demonstrated. Due to the behaviour of this one individual and that the group was trying to get the hotel to waiver confirmed wifi fees the manager did not want to continue the discussion and then asked the rest of the group to leave without paying as this disturbance was effecting other guests. It is concerning to hear that this sort of behaviour which was exhibited by your party along with the exaggeration of the truth in your review came from hotel owners. The hotel has a multitude of races employed and is located in a culturally significant area of New Zealand so the accusations of one of our managers being a racist is seen as an individual trying to get their point across by pulling the race card. The incident footage along with statements have been passed onto Hallmark Tours due to the severity of behaviour and the effect left on our staff. Regards, Matthew Hambly, Rooms Division

If you want to stay in a sauna bath then this is the place for you. Zero A/C an inefficient and noisy ceiling fan. The rooms are old and in great need of refurbishment and redecoration. The housekeeping staff are less than good, There was a white cotton thread on the carpet in my room on my arrival and after 3 nights it was still there, who knows maybe the hoover was broken. I stay in hotels all over the world about 150 nights a year and it has been a long time since I was charged for WIFI. Yes if you go to a coffee shop or McD in fact today almost every one gives you free WIFI, not this place NZ$ 30 for 3 days with a limit on your download. This place should be avoided like the plague.

Good Afternoon. Thank you for providing feedback about your stay with us. The hotel advises under its amenities and room descriptions that we have ceiling fans only and not air conditioning so that to advise guests that when they choose to stay at our hotel what to expect when it comes to room cooling. We had a wonderful six night stay but were a bit disappointed that there was no aircon in rooms and especially needed In function room. Staff were pleasant and helpful and hourly shuttle into town was a plus as we didn’t have a car. Location 10/10

I had stayed here a few years ago also for two nights. The hotel is OK, but both times we were given the “garden/tennis court” view which means you are at the back of the hotel facing nothing. These rooms are a west or south exposure and the rooms get very, very warm later in the day. This time of year was not too bad as it was cool outside. The rooms require updating and the bathrooms were clean but lots of black around the grout. The tub had yellowed. It can be quite a hike from the car pack to the rooms (which never seems to have enough spots for all the guests). The hotel is two stories and there is an elevator. This time we did not use the pool or spa. The treaty grounds are a very short walk next door which is nice and the hotel is nicely situated on the water. The hotel is nothing special at all and at first glance appears grander than it is. The rooms have a small fridge and coffee pot but no microwave or toaster. Some rooms have a closed in solarium with a small table and chair – some configurations are different than others. Our friends had a double room, rather than a twin, and they had a sofa inside but a smaller uncovered patio. It was not my choice to stay here but it was very disappointing that the experience was no better than it had been in 2014. Would stay elsewhere and drive to the grounds. Needs updating and better customer experience. WIFI is limited.

Room Tip: Do not get a garden view with south or west exposure unless it is very cool outside
