We visited this hotel 6 years ago and chose to return with friends mostly because of the location and view of the Bay of Islands. Sadly this is what the hotel is relying on. The rooms are tired and in need of some upgrading especially the bathrooms which are not up to the standard expected by travellers nowadays.
The room was incredibly hot despite the fan being on all night.
The bar was understaffed and the wait for drinks unacceptable. The reception area too was almost always busy and I had to wait a while to get attention.
There appeared to be a lack of managers around and the young staff seemed to be struggling to cope and no one came to assist them. Simple things like ensuring the water cooler in the lobby is filled up, especially in this hot and humid weather requires attention from someone
Beds were comfortable and hotel was quiet. Bar supper food was good. The shuttle bus between hotel and Paihia is a good service.
Finally I object to the 2.4% surcharge to use a credit card. This is now illegal in UK
Sharpen up Copthorne Bay of Islands!

We were recommended to stay here so for the first time this trip we booked and paid before arrival ......Because we were refused refund we had NO choice but to stay....Never Again!
Overpriced considering NO Aircon in any rooms our bed was up against a wall so had to crawl over partner to get out, no room for luggage and bathroom was dirty! Paid $180 per night and the rooms were no comparison to other places we had stayed for same price
Desperate need for refurbishment....big downer for our supposedly highlight road trip. Huge disappointment and couldn’t wait to leave. Sad thing was....at least 8 other guests shared the same opinion.
Don’t stay here...

Copthorne Hotel HAS NO AIR CONDITIONING! Nice location perhaps but Grand Pacific did not take the time to review the hotel and bumped us from their usual hotel in the area, Not good at all! 48 people on a bus all day and have lousy rooms to retire in.

Room Tip: Stay Away from Grand Pacific and this hotel

I would however like to make mention that we had 6 other coach parties in the hotel on the same nights as your group staying in similar room types as what you party were booked in and we received no negative feedback from them. On the contrary we in fact received a number of positive comments about the hotel as a whole along with positive comments about their dining experience and interaction with hotel staff. Ok, it’s old. But what really is not acceptable is the mold in the bathroom, the only washbasin is located in the kitchen and non in the bathroom, the lock at the balcony door is broken, the whole room smells funny. This is NOT what I would call a 4 star standard.

Room 223. When we arrived we were given envelopes, but without room keys, so not a good start. The bathroom had old tiles and dirty grout, with tarnished and old fittings. It was too hot to sleep, due to lack of air con. Breakfast was just a typical hotel buffet, which could have been anywhere in the world. We were treated as second class guests as we were part of a tour group, made to sit at group tables for meals, and no mini bar in our rooms. We booked in advance a lift into town on the Hotel shuttle, and waited and waited some more, then they told us that they had forgotten to look in the book. A sea view is no substitute for poor service.
