We stayed here for our anniversary and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed a corner club room on the Empyrean Club floor and it was special. Although the room was a touch small it had a great oceanfront view. The Empyrean staff called us the day before to welcome us and walked us through the amenities. They provided some very nice touches for our anniversary. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Both restaurants, Catch 31 and Salacia Steak House, were perfect and the food fantastic. A final note, if you visit their Activities Desk be aware that it is run by Diamond Resort International, a time share business that is simply looking to put their hands into your cash pockets. This a first class hotel...enjoy!!!!

The only thing that was good about this stay is getting there early I got a parking pass and access got the rooftop pool and bar. That was nice. Otherwise the room was wrong. Not clean. There were things from a previous guest in the nightstand. There was a Geico banner on my balcony and it completely obstructed my view unless I wanted to stand up. And Catch 31 for breakfast will get a separate review but don’t waste your time or money getting breakfast included. It was bad from start to finish.

Unfortunately, we had problems from the moment we arrived. There was very loud music playing in the lobby whist we were checking in. I expect piped music, but nothing like this! We waited at least twenty minutes for our luggage to be delivered. It only came after I called to chase it. The room we were allocated had a connecting door to another room which was not sound proofed. We could hear every word of the telephone conversation that was going on in that room. We asked to change to a room without such a connecting door. When our request was turned down, we had to beg and plead and demand to change. All this after an exhausting 13 hour journey. We ended up with a nice room overlooking the ocean but, alas, we were subjected to constant noise for four days. A stage was being set up for a charity concert, the concert followed, then the stage was taken down. It was unbearable. Our room was not cleaned until late afternoon on four out of five days. I was told that the cleaning staff did not start until 9.30am. We were dressed ready to go to a wedding and I discovered that our safe would not lock. It could not be fixed so there was a last minute panic to put everything in a friend's safe in another room. It was fixed but broke again the next day. There were other problems, too numerous to mention. Suffice to say, we shall not be returning to this Hilton. I had expected better. We then continued on to Washington where we were once again in a Hilton hotel. Thankfully, this was up to standard.

There was a fundraiser/ concert the day we checked in. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about raising money for causes.
I had paid extra for private beachfront with balcony. Well room was small, couldn't leave door open to balcony because constant noise for 2 days if taking down all the stage and related equipment from concert. Trucks beeping all day after dark. Lots of Bugs came in when I did have the door open for short time. AC unit in room was super noisey & room not very clean. Sorry I paid extra for beachfront, not worth it at all. Extra for the "club" wasnt really worth it. The ladies that worked in there were very nice however. Also room wasn't ready for over an hour past our check in time of 4 pm. And I had to call the front desk to keep checking. In house restaurant food was pretty good, overpriced.

I apologize that your stay with us was not as relaxing as you'd hope. Indeed, we had a large fundraiser on the beach in front of the hotel. Our location makes us ideal for all types of organizations (Susan G. Komen, Wounded Warrior, ALS) to hold fundraisers, and we are proud to do so. However, we recognize that from time to time, this may not align with our guests wishes, and we do apologize that this was the case.
Thank you,
Richard

Perfect place to enjoy the beautiful sunrise and watch the fighter planes fly high above! Early October proved to be a beautifully quiet time to visit with minimal crowds. Quiet of course is a subjective word, there is always the rumble in the sky with the jets flying by.

Thank you for sharing your review. We are indeed fortunate to be located right on the beach, which provides spectacular sunrises! As you may know, Hampton Roads is home to several military bases. The jets that you refer to come from Oceana Naval Base, and from time to time, their practice patterns take the jets directly eastwards, over the ocean. I'm sorry if this was an inconvenience to you, we are extremely fortunate to have the military in our presence and we prefer to refer to the jet noise as the "sound of freedom!"
Thank you again,
Richard
