Pulau Sibu is a quiet tropical island, the beach was very nice. The huts are nice, definitely rustic but with en-suite bathrooms - a nice touch. The cold showers in the morning were invigorating. The per night cost is a little high for the accommodations, price includes includes meals: - English breakfast (eggs, sausage, toast/butter/jam/honey, fruits, yogurt, cereals, tea/coffee) - lunch (starter-main course-fruit for dessert) - dinner (soup, starter, main course, fruit for dessert). The Saturday night barbecue was nice - lamb, chicken and fish.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful, particularly Carly with check-in and answering questions. With kids on the trip we arranged snorkeling at a beautiful little island about 20 minutes away, the beach was beautiful. Angus was great with the snorkeling trip, very patient with the kids.

A negative for us was the reckless high-speed boat rides to/from Rimba. We had young children in the boat and literally had to hold on to them and the boat in order not to get thrown out when hitting 3-4 foot swells. We were all sopping wet on arrival back at the per in Tanjung Leman after a very scary ride.

We had heard about Rimba on Sibu from friends. And we are so glad we took their recommendation. Many of the good things have already been said: the ease of transport, the delicious food (so good I asked for the recipes!) - and I think they have definitely taken on board that people prefer to have the local food so thank you for that as it was superb. Again the staff were exceptional; Mal, Carly, Dan, Nieve, Angus, Adam and Jen, to name just a few - you all contribute to making this beautiful place work for us, and you seem to do it so effortlessly! And yes, go to Jen for a massage, a truly great way to complete your stay.

The birdsong around the resort is exquisite together with the stunning views and some gorgeous
sunsets. As has already been mentioned, the snorkeling on the resort beach is pretty good
although the visibility was not so good for us. We also went on a snorkel trip with Angus (others
went diving) and found another deserted beach with a lovely reef. Saw 2 cuttlefish which we had never seen before. It is also worth going out on the kayaks- go to the left of the resort and you
will find another private beach and more good snorkeling. The equipment is good too.

We thoroughly enjoyed hanging out at the bar and watching some rugby, made all the more interesting due to the international mix of guests- Saffas v Poms, all quite vocal! Just be aware that the bar bill can add up once your stay comes to an end!!!

We can only really think of a couple of negative points: The mattress was not very comfortable (understatement) and we know that other guests felt the same. Although our linen was clean,
there were several ominous looking stains on the top sheet which is never nice is it?!

The other problem was the sandflies. I got bitten and I didn't lie on the beach at all. I probably have only got about 5 bites but 2 days later and they are still super itchy! I know this is a
problem in a lot of places and is no fault of anybodies, but do take on board the advice about oil
and using beach mats if you do want to lie on the beach.

But you can bet that we will be back, we loved Rimba - thank you!

Room tip: We had a room at the far end of the beach (no 18), so it was away from the bar and the main beach so very quiet. Just a slightly longer walk 'back home' in the dark after an evening at the bar! Bring a torch!

Rimba Resort is a great escape from Singapore. Jungle Huts provided the island feel to my weekend getaway. The resort arranged for me to be picked up in Singapore and brought across the border into Malaysia and directly to the dock where all that remained between me and relaxation was a fast 20 minute boat ride. I highly recommend letting them arrange for this effortless transfer from Singapore, because then you can relax and make a party out of it. Other people in my van had been to Rimba before, so they knew to bring beers and picnic supplies into the van, and thankfully they included me. Mind the time of departure to avoid long lines at the Singapore-Malaysia border (avoid rush hour).

While I enjoyed the location, the lodging, and the diving and snorkeling, what really made the difference for me, especially as a solo traveler, was the staff. They were outstanding! Within hours after my arrival, they all knew and called me by my name. They took the time to have conversations with me – when I wanted, and left me alone when I didn’t. Special mention and thank you goes to Carly, the Front of House manager, for arranging my stay, transportation, and making sure my vegetarian dietary habits were accommodated, as well as being a charming conversationalist. Also to Jen, a masseuse in the spa, for kneading my stress away – I’d highly recommend a massage as a way to start your time at Rimba.

Room tip: Most of the huts have cold water showers, except for the one or two large ones. This ended up being refreshing as it was a good relief from the heat.

We had a fantastic time at Rimba Resort. Carly and the team were incredibly welcoming, the food was great, and the diving centre is exceedingly good. Don't forget to book into the on-site spa for a massage or other therapy - I popped in and had a great sports therapy session on an injured knee.

Room tip: If you require a hot shower make sure to book specifically.

The hotel is located on Sibu Island, on a small quiet beach (20 min by boat from Tanjung Leman).
Bungalows are very simple but include bathroom. They are facing the sea (great beach view!!)
Restaurant is very good (however they could serve more local fish or seafood). Price includes all meals:
- English breakfast (eggs, sausage, toast/butter/jam/honey, fruits, yogurt, cereals, tea/coffee)
- lunch (starter-main course-dessert)
- dinner (soup, starter, main course, dessert).
The beach in front of the hotel has a nice reef for snorkeling and scuba diving. However, at low tide, it is difficult to get in the water due to the corals.
There is a bigger and wider beach on another side of the island. There is a small jungle trek which brings to the Sea Gypsy hotel (10-15min) (take mosquito repellent!). However, there were many sandflies on that beach even when we used sun oil.
The hotel has a "spa" (massages) (but did not try)
The staff was very friendly with us.
There is a SSI scuba diving center ("Hi Tide" scuba diving center located in the hotel (same owner)). The material was of good quality and we did nice dives (we were the only one diving in the hotel and then we could organize how we wanted to do :-)). (120RM per boat dive + 25 RM for full gear)

The hotel organized the pickup from Singapore airport. All went perfect and on time.

Globally, The services are good. However, it might be overpriced (200 RM per night (week rate) per person, full board (without drinks)) compared to Tioman island. This might be due to the proximity with Singapore. Effectively, it is much more easier and faster to get to Pulau Sibu from Singapore than to Tioman.
