A bellinghamster recommended us this restaurant/cocktail bar and we were more than supprised by the great food and cocktails served. We had the whole Valentines special menu with fresh oysters, pate with toast, deliciously tender lamb chops and a cheesecake to top it all off. All courses were served with excellent recommended wines, cocktails and digesteves. Only thing missing was the espressomachine but the frenchpress kept us hanging at the bar until closing time. A must do if you are in Bellingham.

We prefer eating early, rather than late, and are fans of happy hour dining. The Real McCoy, recommended to us by friends, fit the bill perfectly. Arriving on the early side of happy hour, we settled in with our drinks and decided to try the Braised Painted Hill Oxtail and the Painted Hills Beef Slider from the happy hour menu, and the Summer Salad and the Chocolate Panna Cotta from the "plates" menu.

Both of us agreed that the braised oxtail, in particular, was among one of the most delicious dishes we'd ever eaten, and our other choices weren't far behind. The flavors were rich and nuanced, and we savored every bite.

Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan diners all have options here, as well, and the seating choices include booths for four, stools at the bar, and several eclectic choices at the front of the restaurant, including a cozy table for two, which we selected.

We look forward to returning soon, and perhaps trying one of the Real McCoy's appealing cocktails, instead of our usual choices of wine (me) and beer (husband), as well as exploring more menu items... and having that braised oxtail again!

Finally got around to trying this place and am sorry we didn't go sooner. Excellent selection of specialty cocktails and some interesting appetizers to choose from. Only gave it four stars because it is very expensive for the drinks and the food. At least $9 for a cocktail and most of the food was in the same price range for a small appetizer. Will go again but it won't be a regular stop because of the prices.

We went for a drink and small bite before a show. Friends we were visiting suggested The Real McCoy, I wasn't to impressed with the menu, though what we ordered was very good. The salad was fresh with a light spritz of dressing. Being a Saturday night, they were very busy and it was extremely loud, hard to carry on a conversation. The service was ok, and staff friendly enough.

Needed a before-show dinner so finally made our first visit. Great decor and atmosphere; hipsterish but not snooty. Great place to have a drink. From the bar, we especially loved and reccomend the Prospect Street Sour; it's racy, complex blend of rye whiskey with yellow chartreuse, lemon peel and cardamom bitters served up. For those more into wine than cocktails, like my dining companion, the bytheglass wine list had some savvy, interesting choices (but considering the owner, it better!).

But the food side needs work to be a gastro destination. Though the tapas were tasty and well-prepared (our favorite: the smokey mushroom tacos), the portions are very small and four weren't enough of a meal for two. Too, the kitchen was slow, so by the time we realized we were still hungry it was too late to order more.

So, great concept and great room. We'll be back, but we won't come hungry.
