Surprisingly good. Food was well prepared and good quality. Prices moderate. Ambiance was about right (we ate in the bar area.) I would go back.

Food was decent. We were seated immediately, food came out in reasonable amount of time. Our server wasn't great, he did the bare minimum to serve us.

We stopped in for dinner on a Sunday night. The dining area was full so we decided to eat in the bar area. We thought we were in luck as a couple had just left as we walked in leaving an empty table. The waitress kept walking by us - ignoring us and avoiding eye contact as we tried to get her attention. No water, no menu,no drink. The people next to us said they'd been waiting half an hour, and that the people before us had left as they'd not been served either. After 45 minutes a waitress came by! The food was average at best. Nothing special. If the waitress had stopped and said 'we're short waitresses' or 'the kitchen is backed up' it might have been different. In retrospect we shouldn't have stayed after the first half hour!

I went her with the family on the first evening we arrived at Castle Rock. It had been recommended by our B&B hosts so we drove back to main highway, about 5 miles away, to investigate ourselves. It was lucky we went because they were closing for a few days due to the forthcoming 04 July celebrations.

We didn't have long to wait for a table and the staff were very friendly. The little one and I had calamari for starters as well as some complimentary beef and vegetable soup for all of us. The calamari was ok but it should come with an appropriate accompaniment not with a chilli dip, which is what happened.

The soup was ok and the accompanying bread was warm. We had steaks for mains while mum had scallops. When the cutlery arrive I found some dried leaf stuck to the blade of my knife so I had to clean that off first. The steaks arrived and they were very well done. However, my wife's scallops came with garlic mash and there was way too much stuff on the plate. Scallops should not come served in batter either, this is not the way to cook them properly. When cooked this way they are seriously inferior.

When the bill came it was less than we expected but in our view the chef needs to think again about how to cook scallops and not put so much food on the plate. Just because the plate is large does not mean to have to totally cover it.

The food was good, the fries were great. This is a good stop for families. Pretty quick and better than fast food. Close to the Highway with plenty of parking for trailers etc.
