I have been here dozens of times over the last 20 years and now that it is closer to town it is a lot more reasonable to go to. It's worth the 8 minute drive from downtown to get some really nice bread and pastry.

They are in a new location (the location shown above is out of date) and they expanded the bakery to include breakfast and lunch items. We came in for lunch today and ordered a breakfast sandwich and an omelet.

First, the omelet. It was small, and very plain. The breakfast sandwich was decent, but it was cool, not hot. They were not busy, in fact, we were the only food customers they had.

Would go back. No. I have frequented their bakery (in the original location) numbers of times and their baked goods are good and unique. Not great, but good enough to keep me coming back. As for lunch, or breakfast, there are better options in the area.

It has a nice local vibe, good brunch, soups, coffee drinks, and baked goods (although surprisingly very little gluten free), and usually nice music. There's outdoor seating for nice weather. Today there was good live folk music, but it was too loud so we couldn't stay, which was too bad. Prior to that, the kitchen staff had some "head banger music" that was also loud. Maybe we're getting old but it seems like it shouldn't be hard to carry on a conversation in a coffee shop. But we'll keep coming.

My wife and I were in Olympia for a few days from Vancouver, BC. We don't have the greatest farmers markets where we're from and heard amazing things about the Olympia Farmer's Market (and decided to check it out). Sadly we got there just when it was closing and we were craving some baked goods. We approached the lady working at the Blue Heron Bakery counter as there were still some items on display. She told us she wasn't allowed to sell us anything after the market closes, but offered us a sample, and by sample she meant an entire piece of cake. We ended getting an apple coffee cake and it was phenomenal. We were due to leave the next day on the Greyhound and since we were early we went back to the market this time to buy some baked treats for the trek home. We obviously got our selves the apple coffee cake, we also got a biscotti crust cheesecake, and we also got ourselves a chocolatie cake thing that was super rich and loaded with nuts (can't remember if it was called a brownie or something else, but it was mind blowing either way)!

We were so relieved that we were able to grab these treats, and we hope the next time we come back to Olympia to try more of what these wonderful people have to offer!
