Some of you may remember the origins of East West Café on Tacoma Mall Blvd - the little house that was always fully packed with people and a line of customers picking up their take-out orders. Then came the beautiful new building! And then changes happened with relocations. We dined last night at the Proctor restaurant - a fond journey back in time to the delectable early experiences of their cuisine. We've eaten at many Thai and Asian restaurants over the years, but always used the East West's food as the benchmark. Happily, they have maintained their high level status! You will not be disappointed! We ordered a combination entrée, a curry and the wonton appetizer. Our waitress was efficient and friendly. It's a cozy restaurant right on Proctor. Hurry here for your next Asian food experience! You will not regret it!

Food was very tasty. Not much into this type of food but would go back again. The service was very good and attentive. No bar but do serve wine and that was very good as well.

Opened originally as a smaller branch of the East-West cafe established decades ago in the Tacoma Mall District, they pioneered the fusion of Asian dishes prepared for western tastes in this area. The original more upscale location is gone, but this location remains in the casual Proctor shopping district. While the menu includes dishes with Chinese and Korean roots, the bulk are Vietnamese and Thai. Traditional Vietnamese dishes we ordered here were as good as we've found in the best Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Surroundings are comfortable and informal enough for families with small children. We had a larger group and were happy to find that they will serve dishes either individually or family style. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. It appeared that the cafe has a regular local clientele - not surprising given the variety and value of their offerings. Loved the exotic ice creams in Asian inspired flavors as a great way to finish a meal. Our party included people from 3 to 93 and all found something they liked.

Never a bad meal. Pleasant ambiance and attentive wait staff. Soft classical music that did not interfere with conversation (a rarity these days!). Not the first time or the last that I will eat here. Fair prices too.

Two of us went for lunch on a work day. We got there early, in order to beat any possible lunch rush since it is a small place. We had to wait to be seated, even though no one was ahead of us and there were tables. It took forever to get water, to have or order taken. I had the green chicken curry, spicy, which was bland and not tasty. My colleague had a vegetarian savory ginger and said it was fine but not great. We have had much Thai food elsewhere in Tacoma, and it took quite awhile to come after ordering. After we were finished, we sat a long time waiting to get our leftovers boxed, and then for our check. Our lunch ran very long and stressful, as we were both late for work even with careful planning. The service besides being slow wasn't great. It looked like a combination of short staffed and new staff. If the food had been yummy, it would have made it worthwhile. We are not planning on going back with the better options available.
