I really enjoyed this park. There are multiple places to pull over for photo op's, a nice walking beach (Owen) and while I missed the business hours of the Fort...that would have been worth visiting if the looks from outside are any clue. There were alot of people but weirdly, it didn't feel like it. Had no issues with parking and there were loads of hiking and bike trails. A family could easily spend the day here. Just go

The point Defiance Park zoo and aquarium are small but very attractive and doable. It has a variety of animals but of course not as many as a major zoo. The entrance is at one level and the zoo and aquarium progress downward towards the water so if you have mobility issues something to consider. The polar bears were not out which was a disappointment but the walrus wolves artic foxes and other animals were there.

There is so much to do here - we did 1.5 hr hike, + walked the beach + Nisqually Fort Heritage Living Museum + Point Defiance Zoo.

So many things to do and explore! Gardens, trails, the Marina, Owen Beach. A great place for children to explore nature and burn off energy :)
