Residence Inn Hotels are really designed for "Long-Term" guests in that they are supposed to offer all of the comforts of home; without actually being there. These amenities include primarily a full kitchen; but typically include an upgraded laundry facilities aimed at supporting many long-terms guests. Residence Inn's are also known for their Manager Receptions with nightly, "snacks" (almost a meal, but no promise of such) and breakfasts.
This particular property fails to meet the standards of a typical Residence Inn because the 95% of the rooms do not have full kitchens; but rather feature only a very small electric "Safety Burner" (2-small glass covered, limited heat) cook-tops. Adding insult to injury, NONE of the rooms have pots and pans designed for these burners; but rather all have old, warped, recessed bottom pans intended for regular burners. The result is that you cannot even boil water in any of these pans and as they are NOT non-stick pans, everything sticks... Basically, completely useless pots and pans.
Next, the kitchen utensils are, "dollar store" specials from probably at least 5-years ago. Not attractive, appealing nor useful.
Okay, so the kitchen is a write-off... so if that is the case, what is the advantage of staying here? Maybe the laundry?
Well, strike-two! The laundry room at this property features 3 each washers and dryers. The only problem is that the equipment is NOT large capacity and it is VERY old. Two of the washers don't spin properly and thus clothes remain saturated and even worse, two of the dryers don't generate enough heat to dry clothes after 4-cycles! (That's two-hours just in the dryers folks and the clothes are still wet!) The one dryer that does generate heat still typically requires 3-cycles for a regular load to dry (that's two-hours to do one load of laundry and you are out 4 Bucks for the pleasure!). The dryers are so old that all of the lint bins are broken and the drums are just full of old lint! Good thing they don't get hot anymore, they would probably start a fire if they did!
Okay, let's move on to the Manager's reception. This hotel doesn't offer it daily, rather only 3-days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and unlike all others that offer sodas and most others offering draft beer and wine, this hotel offers none of that but rather horrible lemonade or the worst, strangest iced-tea you've ever had the displeasure of consuming. As for the food, well... let's just say it is typically very bad and leave it at that. Everything is very low-budget from preformed crappy beef patties on hamburger night (with stale breads/rolls/hot dog rolls being the norm on those nights) to really bad premade "pork patties". The best night is usually cheese and crackers... I mean it is almost impossible to destroy cheese and crackers! The Salads are also usually okay.. nothing special; but compared to the hot food, wonderful.
Okay, so the kitchen is useless, the laundry facilities horrible, manager's reception a complete waste of time, what about housekeeping.
This hotel has a REALLY bad problem with housekeeping. Basically, they just skip rooms all the time and then make excuses! Your room didn't get cleaned today? Gee, we're sorry. It's been a week? Gee, what could have happened? The excuses go on and on; but at $100+ a night, there shouldn't be any excuses, especially if you are only asking to have your room cleaned once or twice a week (you know, clean sheets, towels, fresh toilet paper and paper towels, etc....). Instead, it is a never-ending list of excuses from Management (no compensation of any kind, just excuses!).
When they do get around to your room, don't expect your carpets to be vacuumed, tables cleaned our counter tops wiped down... Best do your own dishes too.
The property itself isn't that bad which is why this hotel rates a poor instead of "Terrible"; however, Marriott should really crack the whip on Management.
Step #1 would be to begin by putting in full ovens in every unit (if not, at least replace all pots and pans with non-stick, higher quality pots and pans intended for these types of cooktops) and to immediately install 6-each NEW, stack-able high-capacity washers and dryers in the Laundry facility that can wash and then dry clothes in 1-cycle each.
Finally, spend a few bucks more on the Manager's reception, or just eliminate it! Maybe then you can move up from stale breakfast breads and biscuits and gravy in the morning to something at least palatable. Maybe it would be best just to have packaged muffins, yogurt and fruit; because wow... the breakfast really blows too!
As for the room noise; yeah, sorry, you can hear every neighbor.. Seems like the new way of these hotels when built is to just have double drywall.. doesn't really cut it... you can hear up and down levels too!
The regular staff here (the front desk and maintenance) are actually the only high-point. They are polite, nice and actually understanding of the guest frustrations with all of these issues AND EVEN guest complaints about the Management. "We hear this all the time" and "You are not the only one complaining about this/that", "We wish we could help resolve that". Again, if not for this point, this hotel would rate horrible.
If you are a long-term guest (as I was), make SURE you get a "Studio with a full-stove" versus any other room... none of the 1-bedroom or 2-bedroom units have the full-stove! Otherwise, I would suggest staying ANYWHERE else! Get an apartment, you'll be happier or if you want a great breakfast (cooked to order!) and manager's reception (free beer and cocktails!), opt for the Embassy Suites instead! After all, if you aren't going to get anything worth using in the Kitchen besides the microwave and coffee maker, you get that in the Embassy Suites too (and the coffee is better!). Plus the Embassy Suites has a full service restaurant bar with room service... this hotel has neither!
