I have stayed at Spider Lake Motel several times over the last 4 years. They are always accommodating and make you feel like family. The owner lives on the property, so if you need anything, it's a short walk across the driveway to see them. If they are not home, the housekeeper is there handle anything you may need. No long Check-In or Check-Out your room is yours from the time your call and reserve it. Very affordable too, always a return Customer!

Room Tip: Room 2 is for larger parties. Rented it once and liked it a lot.

If you are looking to get away from the busy city life, this is a great place to visit. This cozy little motel offers a north woods environment of tall whispering pines right outside your door. We have stayed at this motel during the summer and winter seasons. In the summer, it is always enjoyable to sit out on the patio and enjoy the scenery of nature. This is also a great place to take a walk or ride a bike. During the winter, there is easy access to the snowmobile trails.

The amenities include a microwave, refrigerator, and wide-screen television in all of the rooms. If you have a large group, they also offer a room that has a kitchen, two separate bedrooms, and roll away beds as well.

The manager has always been kind and accommodating to my family and our needs. The other people that work here are friendly as well. Most of all, this place is affordable! When we travel 1,000 miles north, the price of our stay allows us to be able to enjoy more days away from home.

We stayed in room #2 (there are only 6 rooms). It was first floor and next to the office. It had a double bed, microwave, coffee pot, and mini fridge. The room was $45 a night.

CHECK-IN & OUT: Upon check-in the room is left unlocked and two keys are in the room. Upon check-out you just leave the keys in the room. You will never see the people that run the motel.

SMELL: Upon arrival there were two air fresheners plugged into the wall. The smell was so overwhelming that we immediately unplugged them to avoid any allergy or asthma issues. By morning, the room smelled "old" so we plugged one of the air fresheners back in when we left the room for the day.

BUGS & INSECTS: There were about 10 bug carcasses in the window sill. The globe of the small light on the ceiling was FILLED with dead bugs. We never slept in the sheets of the bed. We slept on top of the comforter, used towels for pillows, and used our own blanket. We killed a beetle in the bathroom and there were spiders in the bathroom. There are bug guts smeared on the wall up near the ceiling.

WI-FI & CELL PHONE SIGNAL: Although the motel advertises free wi-fi, there was a note on the bulletin board in our room (#2) that you will have difficulty getting signal in the room. The note states that you will have better reception on the porch. The porch is so mosquito ridden that sitting out there is not an option. They need a WI-FI extender or booster. I have Verizon and the locals said that was the best for coverage. The cell phone reception was one bar of 3G, at best. That is when the signal decided to work, as it was intermittent.

BATHROOM: The toilet tank leaks as there was a towel on the floor behind the stool to catch the drippings. The bathroom sink is slow to drain and the water pressure is low. The shower walls look like they had never been cleaned. There were soap scum dirt drips on the walls. The provided soap in the shower was Equate brand HAND soap from Wal-mart. There was no shampoo or conditioner provided. The shower pressure was good. We wore flip flops in the shower as we didn't want to risk standing in the dirty tub.

AMENITIES: The mini fridge worked and was within arms length of the headboard. So you can reach a beer from the fridge and never get out of bed. I would describe this as a bachelor's heaven. We never used the microwave, but the front of it was sticky. We did not use the coffee pot.

POSITIVES: Easy to find, nice parking, cheap. If you are a bachelor and looking for a cheap place during hunting season, then this is the place for you. For all other people - STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor have to deal with the very squeaky floors on the second floor. Pacing on the se...

Thank you for your review,

Here at Spider Lake Motel we take pride in offering quality clean rooms at very reasonable prices.

In response to your specific paragraphs:

CHECK IN Yes we do have a VIP service for late arrivals in which we express check in guests. This service includes keys left in room, door unlocked for you, light on and temperature adjusted. This is the first complaint I have ever received on this free service in the 20 years we have offered it. You may refuse this service on your next stay. We are always available for guests 24/7 by phone.

SMELL I have used Airwick Vanilla electronic room fresheners for years without a single complaint. Because of your complaint I am making an airfresner free room available for guests upon request. Smoking in motel rooms is illegal in Wisconsin. When smoking is detected we immediately wash all walls, wash all fixtures and shampoo the carpet. Please call motel office immediately if you detect cigarette odor.

BUGS & INSECTS I am at a loss on this one. I take pride in room cleanliness. I have never seen any bug situation as you described in any room in 20 years. Wisconsin does have a mosquito and asian bettle situation and for a couple weeks each year it is real bad. We do spray outside the building during these times. We also do overtime inside the rooms daily making sure we keep the mosquitos and asain bettles as minimal as possible for guests.

WI FI & CELL PHONE SIGNAL We are one of the few lodging places within miles that has a Verizon Network Extender (mini cell tower) on premises and hooked up to our high speed internet router. In addition we have a WI FI router and a cell booster on the roof. Room 2 is the only room in the motel with marginal reception. We have not been able to determine the cause as to why unit 2 is marginal. I will inform all guests prior to booking that room 2 is marginal.

BATHROOM In 20 years no toilet tank has ever leaked. The tank in room 2 did have condensation outside. We have corrected that. You are the first to ever complain about the Equate soap. We have received comments that this soap rinses clean and my housekeeper says it leaves no soap residue left on walls of shower. Extra shampoo and conditioner is available from management. Just call the main line.

AMENTIES I am glad you were able to reach for a beer and never get out of bed.

ROOM TIPS: Thanks to your comment we found a squeeky spot in the floor upstairs directly where the most traffic is. Thank you for pointing this out. It has been corrected. Next time you stay here please call the office if you have any situation with the room. We will immediately work to correct it.
