It's been a long wait for a top notch white table cloth French restaurant to open in the western Milwaukee suburbs, but Cafe Grace is finally here. We visited with friends on a Saturday evening and were pleased with the diversity of the menu and high quality of the food. Open only a few weeks, there were a few hiccups during the evening, but these are sure to disappear over time. We enjoyed a couple excellent apps: chicken pate and a mixed selection of cheeses. Our entrees were beautifully presented and the accompanying sauces were particularly flavorful. Meals included rotisserie Strauss veal, slowed cooked duck leg, and Coquilles St. Jacques among others. All were perfectly cooked, presented beautifully, and quickly devoured. They were followed by a selection of wonderful desserts including profiteroles, lemon tarts and chocolate gateau. Service was attentive and prompt. Overall it was a good night, with a few minor blemishes that are sure to be addressed. Without window shades or curtains, patrons facing to the west are blinded by the setting sun on clear evenings. Background music is loud enough that conversation can be difficult at times. Our cheese plate app allowed for a choice of 3 cheeses out of a list of several selections, but only 4 were actually available. Our generous chicken pate app tasted great, but we were provided just 4 or 5 small, fragile, 'holey' crostini with the pate. It was disturbing watching an asst. server lean over the tray of entrees waiting to be presented to us, to place a used bread basket on the other side of the tray, possibly dropping all manner of things onto our food. That said, this is a fine, exciting restaurant presenting wonderful food that I'm sure we'll visit again and again.
