We stayed at the Plantation Home owned by Yellowstone Bed and Breakfast. The views were outstanding and the home was beyond belief. Everything that we needed was there for our use. It was secluded at the top of the mountain, so there was plenty of privacy. There were miles of atv trails and plenty of hiking trails to entertain ourselves. Everyone had their own bathrooms, which were large and spacious. All the bedrooms were large and had plenty of windows with panoramic views. Sitting out on the veranda drinking my morning coffee looking at 3 mountain ranges made me not want to leave!!!

The cabins were nice, clean, and great views. The only thing that I have to say about these cabins is that they are no where near Yellowstone. My friends and I wanted to take a vacation to explore Yellowstone and it was at least a 2 hour drive to even get to the entrance, it is just not what we were looking for.

Our stay at the Plantation House was September 7-13, 2011. There are a lot of positives to share so I will start with those. The house has four bedrooms. The first floor bedroom has a queen bed and a 3/4 bath. If a member of your group has trouble with stairs they will want to stay in this room. The master bedroom on the second floor is very large with a walk-in closet and a bath with a heart shaped soaking tub and a nice shower. The bed in this room is definitely King sized. A second bedroom has a full sized bathroom with deep tub and also a King sized bed. A third bedroom has a queen or king with private bath. All bedrooms have their own bathrooms.
We had plenty of hot water for showers but be aware you will need to bring your own shampoo and hair dryers. Body wash is provided by the owner. None of the bedrooms have great bedside lighting. All the rooms are large enough to have lamps on both sides of the bed and it would be nice if this was the case. If you like to read in bed you will find the lighting a problem.
The kitchen on the main floor is very spacious and well supplied with pots and pans, dishes, and silverware. You will need to bring all your own staples..only salt and pepper provided. Also plan to bring charcoal and lighter fluid as the outdoor grills are not gas grills. We also bought a sack of ice for our drinks as there was no ice when we arrived. The dining area is pleasant and is set up with two tables and is comfortable for eight or ten. If you have a toddler plan on bringing a highchair and a pack n play as these are not provided. The living area is large with two comfortable chairs, one comfortable sofa, and two not so comfortable futons. The T.V. is huge and is projected on the wall. There is a lot of natural light coming through the windows so viewing the t.v. during the day isn't great. You will want to bring your own movies as there are none provided. Also plan to bring your own games and cards.
Wow! what a view from the house. It has a full wrap around porch with lots of french doors to access the outside. The owner has provided a lot of outdoor seating on the deck to enjoy the views.
The house itself gets a five but the location gets a 3 as far as enjoying Yellowstone National Park. We had 12 hour days when we made our trips into Yellowstone. There is major construction on the highway going from Dubois to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park. This construction is going to go on for a while so you need to check on a road report before making your decision. It took us two hours to get from the house to the south entrance of Yellowstone. Yellowstone is huge! You will do a lot of driving in Yellowstone. We often got home at 9 p.m. after a long day on the road. It did take away from our enjoyment and made the trip more stressful. My husband didn't mind the drive so much as he likes to drive but the rest of our party did mind. The other issue is driving at night with the potential for wildlife to cross the road.
The drive to the house is two miles of gravel road with washboard surfaces at times. One couple drove a Prius and had to get a running start to navigate the steeper area on one of the curves. Our all wheel Highlander did fine on the trip. The road was dry so no snow to deal with while we were there. The weather was nearly perfect. Blue skies and warm temperatures during the day but cooler/cold at night.

The Plantation home did allow us to have lots of family time together and overall was very comfortable. We did a lot of our own cooking so of course this saves on costs. I would recommend you do your own research on how long it will take you to get to the Grand Tetons/ Yellowstone based on the construction on the main road.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are very nice. The stairs to the second floor is fairly steep so any one with a disability will want to choose the main floor bedroom.

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite of the Yellowstone Cabins which according to the website sleeps six. Thinking that there would be enough space we brought our 2yo along.

Firstly the layout of the place is poor as most of the cabins are about 20 ft apart - so forget that seclusion and privacy and with enough passing cars - there goes the amenity too! We were near the dumpster and really loved that industrial bang everytime trash was place in there.

This place is more like a glorified studio and could really only sleep six midgets. Besides the double bed (which is a good size) the other double bed was in the roof up a dangerous ladder and the other 2 beds formed part of a sofa bed. It was very cramped with a poor internal layout.

The kitchen had very few utensils but thanks to the Dubois Op Shop we were able to get some much need kitchen utensils.

The place was surrounded by overgrown spiky weeds which I had to remove.

I tried the mountain bikes (most were broken and old and almost crashed due to a gear fault.

This place is very poorly maintained and we got such a better deal for the same price in West Yellowstone.

But luckily we found some space at the log fire!

Please AVOID!

Stayed at their huge mountain top home. We had 9 people in our group and the house was very spacious for our group. The views of the mountains was grand. The house had everything we need provided even down to the laundry detergent in the laundry room. Very accommodating and highly recommend for large families.
