When we asked where to eat in Hilo, everyone mentioned Moon and Turtle. I would recommend calling ahead for reservations. We walked in and had to wait 45 minutes. But it wasn't bad. We walked a few blocks to the grocery store to buy a few things. The chefs use mostly locally sourced ingredients, seafood, etc. And the menu changes daily, depending on what they get in. They are also very adventurous in their menu, not afraid to try new recipes. In fact, our waitress said one of her favorite dishes hadn't been on the menu for awhile and she was looking forward to it coming back. The wait staff was very helpful too. Both waiters/waitress that served us were genuinely concerned about our experience there.
A bit on the pricey side, especially with two kids. But the food was superior quality to most other seafood restaurants we've tried in Hawaii. It might be the best thing going in Hilo!
