“For $60 this was pretty good!”

Waipi'o Valley Wagon Tours
Ranked #10 of 20 things to do in Honokaa

We looked at a couple of tours of the valley and choose this one because of the price and the excursion time.

If you are looking for a well-oiled, premium tour this isn’t for you. If you are into petting wild goats on the side of the road, you will enjoy this tour.

You get in the slightly broken van and drive it down an incredibly step incline. Don’t look over the edge. Bob has done this tour enough that he can drive the incline in his sleep. Don’t be concerned.

After the van stops, you hop into a wagon pulled by two mules. I am a city girl and don’t know much about mules. But they looked healthy and well cared for.

The wagon tour was about 30 minutes. Others have commented that the wagon tour should have been longer. I disagree. That was plenty of wagoning.

The valley was beautiful and I am glad we did this tour! That being said, I probably won’t rush back to do it again.

But if you are looking for a reasonably priced option and to see some beautiful scenery, this is a great option!

We were so close to booking a tour for our family, but the the first time I called with a couple questions the woman who answered was rude and impatient. I called the second time to book and she told me to call back in 10 minutes because she was doing emails... that was enough of a deterrent... we hiked down into the valley instead and it was fantastic. Not helpful for a business to have such an unfriendly person dealing with customers.

Our little group included people with ancient knees and a young child so we knew walking down the steep road into Waipi'o Valley was out of the question. This was a perfect solution as Bob (who has been the owner/operator of this enterprise for over 20 years) was the expert you'd want driving you up and down that scary road in a sturdy four-wheel-drive van. We got out of the van in a scenic spot and waited for a short time enjoying the day while Bob got his mule-drawn wagon to pick us back up for the rest of the trip to the end of the maintained county road and back, Bob lives in the valley and knows many facts and stories to keep it interesting. It was definitely a worthwhile trip for a laidback visit to such an amazing Hawaiian location.

An awesome experience! Enjoyed the tour guide and his information was so very interesting and informative. Loved the mule and wagon part of the ride! Saw beautiful scenery and the local culture and history was great. Beautiful views from the top of the mountain area too!

Booked this and then read the reviews, but decided to go anyway and glad we did. Yes, the wagon portion isn't all that long, but to us it seemed just right. We saw all sorts of flora and fauna. Bob was a good guide. The van ride into and out of the valley was an adventure in itself, but I felt like Bob could do the trip with his eyes closed, and his van was worn but solid. The wagon has a roof, which served us well during part of the journey. Those experiencing the trip through the valley on horseback got a bit soggy.
