“Not worth a special trip but do stop if on Hwy 132”

Lava Tree State Park

The Lava Tree State Park is interesting but not worth a trip just to there. If on Hwy 132, it is worth the stop. It is also easy to miss because there is only a very small sign indicating to turn. It helps to know the mile marker. Traveling Hwy 132 has several, but hard to find, points of interest if you have the time.

This is a nice clean park that is interesting to stop in and check out. It shows how the 1960s lava flow effected the trees. Recommend for a quick visit if in the area

Interesting small park with lava trees on display. When you reach the fork that goes left or right, the right path has almost all the lava trees to see compared to the left fork - it's a circular path, so choose based on whether you want to be pleasantly surprised at the start or the end of your walk.

What a beautiful and amazing little park this is! Easy paved trail, breathtaking scenery and fascinating history. A great place to get out and stretch your legs when you're touring the Puna District.

Here you take an easy scenic walk through the park to see the remains of lava en-coated trees. Informative and laid-back its also free!
