“Interesting quick stop”

Lava Tree State Park
Ranked #9 of 29 things to do in Pahoa
Attraction details
Reviewed 7 April 2018 via mobile

This park is an easy quick stop on the way to the tide pools. Interesting to see the remnants of lava trees and see the new regrowth of the foliage. A walk around the park takes 15 min or so and there is a cool fissure to look at near the entrance. Also, restroom facilities can be found here.

The lava flow encased trees and then formed "statue" like monuments. Some deep lava cracks you can look into (they're fenced)

The Lava Tree State Park is interesting but not worth a trip just to there. If on Hwy 132, it is worth the stop. It is also easy to miss because there is only a very small sign indicating to turn. It helps to know the mile marker. Traveling Hwy 132 has several, but hard to find, points of interest if you have the time.

This is a nice clean park that is interesting to stop in and check out. It shows how the 1960s lava flow effected the trees. Recommend for a quick visit if in the area

Interesting small park with lava trees on display. When you reach the fork that goes left or right, the right path has almost all the lava trees to see compared to the left fork - it's a circular path, so choose based on whether you want to be pleasantly surprised at the start or the end of your walk.
