Wow! Kilauea lodge is a great place to stay when visiting the volcano on the Big Island. We stayed in the cottage for 4 nights. We thought it was great, very cozy, comfortable bed. The fire place was a nice feature. Fairly large bathroom, somewhat small shower. Cool smell of jungle mist and sulphur in the morning air. (Really it was very cool!) The breakfast was yummy, but the hawaiian music got a bit old. Try the fresh papaya with lime juice for breakfast. awesome! We ate dinner at the lodge one night, but thought it was a little overated. Too many sauces.Try the Kiawe Kitchen up the road instead. We really enjoyed our stay here, and we'd stay there again for sure.

Kilauea Lodge is an exceptional property in a tiny town on the edge of Volcano National Park. It is a real gem. As a family of 4 we stayed in their off-property cottage Pii Mauna. It is about 3 miles from the lodge on a very quiet residential street overlooking a open space at the fringes of a golf course. The cottage consisted of 2 units, the first with bed, bath, living room and kitchen and the second being another bedroom, bath and TV/sitting room. All were comfortably furnished and very clean. The design provides ample room to spread out and enjoy. These two units are not directly connected which gives each part complete privacy. But the best part is that they share a very large common deck with completely private personal hot tub. Coming back late from their restaurant (also excellent - see separate review) it was most enjoyable to step out onto our private deck and into 104 degrees of warmth under black skies. The two units afford complete privacy.

The front desk staff is wonderfully helpful and friendly. They provided suggestions and directions for best lava viewing (which is constantly changing). They even lent us flashlights for a night hike. Real personal attention.

I would highly highly recommend the Kilauea Lodge for anyone, the entire property is lovely. But if you are two couples or a family of 4, Pii Mauna cottage is a wonderfully private and special place.

What a beautiful property! We loved the 1st time experience at a lodge. We stayed in the cottage for one night and would have loved to stay longer. It rained all night and we awoke to what sounded like a CD of a tropical rain-forest! Too bad that the park was closed during our stay and our helicopter ride the following morning was cancelled due to poor visibility. I agree with a previous review, the french toast was amazing! Walking the lush property was truly an unforgettable experience.

Lodged at the Hale Maluna room for two nights. It has a wonderful fireplace that warmed up the cool and wet Kilauea air. The decor is nice (though somewhat homey) and atmosphere is rustic and comfortable. The breakfast that comes with the lodging is simple but perfect for the hikes/walks around the Nat'l Park. We also had dinner there - they actually had Parker Ranch beef (even the Waimea restaurants did NOT serve Parker Ranch beef!), Anyway, the steak was delish...and the people at Kilauea Lodge are very nice and welcoming! I highly recommend it! {One caveat - bathtub is small but fine for the average person.}

Very warm, cozy room and what I have come to expect of lodge/B&B type hotels. Nice garden in the rear of the hotel and a very friendly staff. Very convenient to Volcanoes National Park. Would stay here again for my next visit though the bathroom certainly looked low end.
