Very good food and great entertainment. We had a large party of 10, so we were able to reserve a table, but there was plenty of room and it was easy for everyone to move through the buffet.

Well frankly the name "Smith" as an Hawai'ian attraction had me skeptical. But after a pleasant boat ride accompanined by the insightful words of a knowledgable captain and a short walk thru lush lushness, I was taken to the Fern Grotto. As this is a place where only the Hawai'ian Royalty were allowed to worship, I guess it doesn't get much more authentic than that. The boat ride back features non stop hulu dancing and ukeleles galore.

Nicely laid out gardens. Very well tagged. Free ice water and friendly staff encouraging you to help yourself to a glass. Very clean bathrooms. I like the food gardens, and all of the gardens honoring the other immigrants to the island.

There are a few activities that take place before the show so arrive there around 4:30, p.m. There is a small tram that takes you around the property. After that, you can walk around the gardens and see the ceremonial unearthing of the pig. Dinner is server after that.

During the unearthing of the pig, you can go and reserve a seat at the dinner venue (unless you are traveling with a big group at which point your table is already reserved) - place a cup or the napkin on the place that you want to reserve. When finding a seat, if you are hungry, choose a seat on a table along the outside of the venue, those tables are the first ones to go to the buffet line.

The show takes place after dinner, seating at the venue is assigned at as first come basis; I believe that most of the seats are good. I have seen better shows, but, for a first time show it is not bad.

This was a beautiful place and worth visiting just for that. I have been to three luaus and the food was better than any other. However the show was disappointing. It started off like it was going to be special, but then went downhill. We didn't come to see Japan, China and the Philippines, we came to see Hawaii. The Chinese dragon was lame, Japanese and Phillippino dances boring. We wanted more hula. Even the fire eater was disappointing.
