My wife and I loved the 1 bed/1 bath condo we rented at the Kihei Kai right on Sugar Beach. Sugar Beach is a quiet, beautiful beach and if you're lucky you'll spot turtles like we did. Even though we didn't pick an ocean front condo, we could hear the ocean from our private lanai, which is really peaceful. Our condo had all of the basic amenities we needed like bath towels, beach towels, pots and pans, AC, even ones we didn't need like a blender. We had several visits from the resident kitties on our lanai too. Ron and Paula were great. Ron even gave us advice on where to go snorkeling nearby. My wife and I were really sad to leave.

I will note there is no maid service here and you get a starter kit of shampoos, soap, dish soap and trash bags. You will have to buy the rest yourself.

Room tip: We didn't have very many bug encounters on the second floor!

We booked here for four nights. The managers are very helpful and could not be of more assistance. The ocean view was totally as promised. However the condo number #19 is in need of improvement which we are advised will happen following our departure. So the expression old Hawaii is translated into not contemporary fixtures, fittings and linen. If you are ok with these quaint features then this is a must go place. We met a number of people there who go back year after year and just love it. Great BBQ. GREAT VIEW.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at Kihei Kai and it is the place I will continue to go to on Maui. The rates are very reasonable and the condos are right on the uncrowded beach at the north end of Kihei. The rooms are simple, but very nice. This is not a "resort" so if you are looking for things to do at the resort you will need to look elsewhere, but if you are looking for a great place to hang out on the beach, watch the sunsets and go on adventures from here, this is a great spot. Ron and Paula are great folks too. Aloha

Room tip: get a room with AC.

Miles of pristine beach steps away. Uncrowded beach. Peaceful. Romantic. That's just the beach. The staff were friendly. Not the forced friendliness you see at some places. They live where they work and its obvious they love it. Ron, the maintenance guy, was quiet and unobtrusive but very approachable and knowledgeable. He knows the best food, beach, snorkel, turtle, bamboo forest, you name it. The room was clean and we appreciated the "welcome" package with local chocolates. Yummy. I missed out telling them it was our honeymoon because we would have received champagne too. The closet had snorkel gear we made use of. Around the corner were surf and boogey boards. There was a monthly beach pot luck. We brought banana pudding and had treats from other locals from the other guests. Nice party. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and some baking essentials like oil and spices. This allowed us to stay in and have a home cooked meal. Home. That's the best description of this place. You'll feel at home here.
