Imagine sailing out to Molokini crater just after sunrise! This was our 5th trip on the Kai Kanani sunrise snorkel express, and it's a must-do every time we are in Wailea. The sunrise snorkel leaves early - 6:30 a.m., and because Kai Kanani gets out to Molokini earlier than any other boat, we have the whole place to ourselves. After a second snorkel stop to observe sea turtles, we are back in Makena by 8:30 am, so we now have the rest of the day to do more! Plus, since it leaves from Makena, you don't have to drive all the way to Lahaina if you are staying in Wailea or Kihei. Plenty of parking available for free, and they also do pickups at some of the local resorts. Onboard, Captain Dan gave a great talk - very funny and put everyone at ease. All snorkel equipment is included, and instruction is given for beginners. The crew was great. Even non-swimmers were made to feel comfortable. Two women in our group weren't swimmers and they were still able to snorkel with the aid of boogie boards and got to view turtles! Crew members were in the water with snorkelers, and helped point out different fish and sea life, and were on the lookout for turtles. They were great with answering questions of any type. Food was fresh and tasty, and gave you a good start on this early trip. Kai Kanani Sailing Charters also has a storefront in Wailea with great gear and can give you information there on their snorkel trips. Will definitely do this again next time we are in Maui.
