We had one guest having a oa carte - the other the buffet. Flavor of the calms, sashimi and main course roasted fish were great, possibly a need for some rice. The finesse with the fish could have been matched with the tomato and cucumber, but overall - no complaints. Partner ha the buffet, and they stayed with the entrees. Rice was soft and almost melting, only negative was when she got to mains, found them a little drier.

Service was friendly and attentive, wine priced quite moderately, recommended.

Great view of the sun setting in the west of Hawaii from this restaurant.

We are staying at the JW Marriott and have been for about 5 days now. We tried this place on Friday night. It was my husbands favorite meal since we've been here. He really like the sushi. I am not a sushi or seafood person. I ate the chicken and steak - they were very good. I don't understand the poor ratings - for a buffet in Hawaii - the price was good and the food was good. And the service was very good. Try it!

OK to have the buffet or a small bite but not the evening out as expected. We had a la carte menu with cold sake. Starters were good. Tempura shrimps and tuna. Main course was a bit dissapointing. The sushi and sashimi platter was just average and the softshell crab was just OK. The chef definately need more classes as the rolls were loose, the temperature to cold and the vegatables to hard.
Personel waa welcoming but shortstaffed although the restaurant wasnt even half full. Nice but I'm afraid a one timer.

They typically host buffets on weekends so check first. We have never eaten a la carte and enjoy their buffet immensely. They have three primary sections - sushi/sashimi, Japanese warm/cold cuisine and desserts.

The sushi selection is impressive and very tasty. They do not present "basic" sushi selections like mainland California rolls, but many from their specialty list. I particularly enjoyed some of their creations, that fuse local ingredients like fresh mango and papaya, with sushi staples like spicy tuna etc. The sashimi selection is good and fresh. The hot/cold food selection is impressive. There is a nice salad section with local toppings like fresh seaweed.

The warm food includes items like NY steam with Japanese ponzu sauce, tempura featuring local vegetables and shrimp, miso glazed salmon, green soba noodles shrimp scampi etc. For a buffet, they managed the ensure that the NY Steak was cooked perfectly - you can select cuts from rare to well done, and dress with various sauces include a ponzu creation. The salmon was amazing - the glaze lends a tasty crunch to the fish. I was pleasantly surprised by the green soba noodles shrimp scampi. The noodles were not al dente but the sauce and preparation saved it from being a soggy disappointment.

Finally, SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT. Don't make a rookie mistake here. The section included shortbread (OMG), pineapple upside down cake, lillikoi cream cake, mini shot glasses of sake gelee with fruit, homemade mochi, fresh haupia and the best creme caramel I've ever had.

The restaurant is a short walk (barely 20 feet) from the beach. If you have an early meal, take a stroll along the nice walkway along the lagoons, enjoy the sunsets as you digest your tasty meal. Kids and adults will enjoy this place. Ono!

The restaurant is located in the J.W. Marriott. This was the best tasting, freshest Sushi I have ever had. The Sake flight with three different types of Sake was a great complement to our meal. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
