Last week ate in the room just inside the entrance, which appears to be a renovated porch that can be open air in the summer. The food and service were excellent, especially the dessert called "chocolate pots de creme." The only (minor) criticism is that the floor out there is creaky, and the host decided to stoke the fire in the wood burning stove, which imparted a smoky smell for the remainder of the dinner.

We ate there on a Saturday night. We get reservations in advance. This is just outside Bar Harbor. Easy parking. Less tourists. Small menu with really interesting choices and flavors. They had a cauliflower appetizer that we ordered that was amazing! I don't ever eat cauliflower! Service was excellent. It appeared many locals eat there and/or returning patrons. Very good food. Get reservations!

We have been coming to the Island and driving by this place for 15 years, but never stopped to check it out. Recently, after talking to few summer residents, realized what we have been missing. It is not even a question, if this is one of the best places on Mt. Desert. Don't get fouled by the exterior or the location, it is all about the meal. Absolutely delicious, fresh and highly creative. The service is quick and professional. It is not cheap, but is worth every penny.

Eight years ago, my husband and I ate at The Burning Tree. We thought it was the best reataurant we had ever eaten at, and we have eaten at restaurants in Europe, Japan, Indonesia, Canada, and throughout the US. We came back to Bar Harbor, and we knew we had to go to The Burning Tree again. And we did--not once but twice. And it was as good as eight years ago. Most of their vegetables are grown on the property. The seafood and chicken is locally sourced. The plates are beautifully presented, decorated with edible flowers. Tonight, I had crab cakes, and my husband had broiled halibut. Both were outstanding. The beet salad and scallopped potatoes that accompanied were scrumptious. The service is friendly and flawless. Situated about five or so miles outside Bar Harbor, the place is busy, but it is not the touristy crowd. These are serious diners who don't mind paying for incredible food and service, far away from the madding crowd.
