This is one of the Piers along from Fishermans wharf, nothing special just really shops and restaurants and a couple of attractions which could be fun with kids. You can also see the Seals which would be the only real reason to go. There are some good views from here across to the Golden Gate Bridge and across to Alcatraz. There are Ferries you can catch out on the water from here too.

Pier 39 is a Fantastic place to go to spend the day. There are multiple attractions like the Aquarium of the Bay, various cruises to see the sights including Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Fran skyline. Many types of restaurants with a multitude of dishes as well as other events that take place during the week. Like most of San Fran near the bay, I recommend bringing at least a light jacket and preferably a hat as well. If you're doing anything where you'll be out in the sun for an extended period of time, be sure to put on sunscreen. The cooler temps will fool you into thinking you may not need it! If you're going to visit multiple attractions, I HIGHLY recommend the San Fran Go Card. It's big savings and if you get it through GROUPON you'll save a few more bucks as well.

We like walking around, observe the sea lions and grab things to eat. However it doesn’t reflect the city of San Francisco that is better than the Pier 39.
Very good location for the kids. Many things to do.

We wenr to Pier 39 around 9am before the masses of tourists invaded the area. The pier is nice, full of different shops and restaurants. There's also sealions you can watch. If you walk to the very end of the pier you get a good look over Alcatraz, in the distance you can also see the Golden Gate Bridge. I recommend going early in the day to avoid tourists. It is a must-see-place when traveling in San Francisco. The boutiqes prices are high, same with most of the restaurants.

The Sea Lions at Pier 39 are so much fun to watch and a must see while in San Francisco! There are also many great restaurants and shops and it is fun to just walk through and check it all out, but worth it just for the Sea Lions alone.
